Do y'all realize how pinched the CFP committee could have been if LSU beat Florida?

The final SEC standings before the conference championship would be

1. Texas (7 - 1) 2. Tennessee (6 - 2). 3. LSU (6 - 2) 4. Georgia (6 - 2) 5. Alabama (5 - 3) 6. S Carolina (5 - 3).

I hate being the hypothetical guy, but I do not think Tennessee beats Texas in SECCC. Either way, the committee has laid a solid precedent for rewarding those who qualify for a conference championship. So Texas and Tennessee IN (as they currently are). But the log jam of LSU Georgia and Bama is intriguing, considering the committee all but put SMU in before the conference champ. This leaves one spot in CFP, and it most likely would have been UGA over BAMA, LSU, and Miami.

The committee has harped on 3 things: eye test, head-to-head, and strength of schedule. This would have really worked the hierarchy of their own rules.

UGA passes the eye test, BAMA has head-to-head, and LSU has the best wins in the strength of common opponents.

Yes, the bar was significantly lowered this year, and play around the country reflected that.

It's just amusing to me how the sky is falling for some of you, and others remain optimistic. Look, LSU isn't at the table right now, but that doesn't mean we weren't capable this season. We have the roster and coaches to be favored in games at UF and USCw. The sky may be falling if we aren't favored in those types of games in the future.

I though LSU would've been in the SECCG if we'd beaten UF. Is that not the case?

the sky isn’t falling, but we didn’t even finish ranked. That’s straight up unacceptable

Well none of the 3 loss SEC teams got in so I don’t think adding another would have changed things for them this year.

Yes they would have. Everything they needed to happen, happened.

Pretty sure Tennessee would have been in SEC Championship over LSU because Mizzou beat Arkansas.

I think that only mattered until Alabama lost to Oklahoma

According to the SEC Standings Calculator, if the LSU-UF game is changed to LSU win, Tennessee finishes 2nd and LSU 3rd.

Nope. If LSU wins vs UF then they are in SECCG over Tenn/Bama/UGA

Bad coaching cost us 4 losses. LSU could easily have been 10/2.

You do realize Heupel is in year 3 as well and is in CFP, meanwhile LSU sitting at home waiting on a scrap bowl

Tennessee would have been because they beat Bama and Georgia and LSU lost to them.

That wouldn’t have mattered because LSU didn’t play either team. The head-to-head tiebreaker only applies if all tied teams played each other. It would have gone next to the common opponent record, which favored Tennessee because of Alabama.

And last year Tennessee was in the same position LSU is this year. Believe it or not, programs actually have up and down years.

But that was year 2, not 3. Generally you judge the coaching based on year 3 when they are able to establish their system with their recruits and their people.

Like Saban when he went 8-5? There’s nothing magical about Year 3.
