Why is Muhammad Ali so revered when he is a racist POS?

I don't get how people have forgotten, (or forgiven him for), all the racist shite he use to spew and have now placed him on this iconic pedestal.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, watch this interview where he talks about "the white man"

He's racist for bringing it up? Is someone sexist for questioning the medias fawning over Jane Fonda? People think she should be charged and tried as a traitor. Should they not discuss that?
This countries obsession with race and hypersensitivity to the issue, is counterproductive and actually hinders attempts to make meaningful progress.
Calling Ali a racist POS is kind of strong though. I'm quite sure his stances have sftened over the years.
When will this shite stop?

Didn't he refuse to enter the draft too?

yep, which makes him a draft dodging P.O.S

I've never understood his canonization either.
He was also a draft dodger. Of course, this is the country that elected Bill Clinton...

He came from an era where many, many blacks were mistreated and weren't even allowed to drink at the same water fountain. His feelings towards white people weren't uncommon among blacks.
I don't think he was/is racist towards white people as far as seeing white people as inferior. But, if you consider "racist" because he was angry over years of mistreatment, then yes, he was racist.

He revered b/c he is probably the greatest boxer of all time. No one gives a shite about his beliefs.

his outbursts, callin Frazier everything fom a monkey to a gorilla, I guess would be considered "racist", also, right. that is part of his schtick, the ones with Cosell are legendary.

Blacks back then faced real discrimination, not the bs that is brought up these days, not trying to excuse his attitudes, but it is more understandable for someone of that era.

He came up in very racial times, he has done almost as much for shattering "racism" as some top civil rights leaders.

I read an interview where Ali said that any white man who tried to have sex with a black Muslim woman would be killed.
Would it be OK if the head of the KKK said any black man who has sex with a white woman would be killed?

I think they already say that, or at least they did back then. Emmett Till got killed for supposedly whistling at a white woman.

People would come to expect that from the head of the KKK.
I know you're not comparing black Muslims to the KKK.
