Man..those were fun days...loved B-ball at the deaf dome in the early 80's. Ill never forget how loud it was for the LSU - Houston game with Hakeem (or Akeem as it was back then) . Man we gave Akeem some serious shite from the student section that day...but Houston had the last laugh with a hard fought win...something like 100-90 ...or maybe 90-80...dont remember the exact score..but it was a high scoring game for college.

Little known fact about Akeem as a freshman...his nickname wasn't "The Dream." I'm 99% sure and could swear it was "Jelly Bean."

Agreed....those were the dayz...enjoyed all the games against "Auburnt" with Charles"love my pizza" Barkley..student section would tease Barkley with one piece of pizza left in the box,..Ky games with the student section yelling out at Jim "Masterbate" Masters...Also watching Greg "cookieman" Cook (RIP) giving Kenny "Sky" Walker all he could handle down low kneeing him in the back of the knees making Walker shoot everything from outside, he was scared to come inside... also, Ethan Martin making fade away shots over 7 ft Melvin turpin down low inside the free throw line.. PRICELESS..Watching LSU play Loyola Marymount with Bo Kimble and Hank Gathers(RIP) in probably the greatest game and for sure the fastest game ever played in The Pete Maravich Assembly center...148-140 LSU won in overtime...the game moved so fast in the 1st half that they burnt up the teletype...had to be replaced for the 2nd half...hell, I had to go and buy some Gatorade at halftime.. ...Watching HI C Carter warming up hearing the student section holler "SWISH" just about every shot he took in warmups...Seeing Mike the Tiger doing his skits including The one in the picture when he would come out at a timeout and imitate the refs...dropping from the ceiling just about every game on a rope..those were the dayz...I could go on and on...plenty memories..the picture is just one....

Does anyone else remember the football game against Ole Miss sometime I think in the 80's when Mark Jeffers(Mike the Tiger) tackled the ole miss mascot (General Lee) ...LSU kicked off against ole miss and the ball went into the endzone for a touchback...well General Lee then picked up the ball and began running toward the LSU endzone when Mike tackled him near the goaline...was a Kodak moment for sure...wish I had a camcorder back then cuz I might have won 10 grand, who knows...

Seems like I remember a game against USC Trojans where Mike (Mark Jeffers), took the spear from Tommy the Trojan and broke it. The student section went wild. Then the real Tommy came out. Mark had dressed up a friend as their mascot and staged the whole thing.

Ok - I was very drunk and it was one of my first games - but I seem to recall LSU / FL St game in the early 80's. Chief Ociola (sp) rode out to mid field and stuck his spear in the turf then Mike ran out and picked it up then snapped it over his knee. . . am I remembering that correctly?

The guy that came out of the ceiling was a Tropper by the name of Mike O'Neal who had been the bands escort for years then went onto watch Dale Brown. Talk about a character,it was my pleasure to have known him.

Was in the band with Mark as well he was the Best Mike by far. Repeling from the ceiling, the blind referee were classic. I remember when we beat Bear in Birmingham in 82. Before the game we were lining up in the endzone to march out on the field. Bear was leaning against the goal post and Mark walked up and said we are going to beat you today. Bear just smiled and said, "Like hell you are son." We beat Bama and after the game Mark rode from Legion field back to our hotel on top of one the state trooper's car still in costume.

What about the def dome meter. Watching it light up as everyone would cheer. I was in elementary school at the time, but I do remember that. What about when LSU played UNLV @ home and the cheerleaders had that remote control shark fin. Do y'all remember that, at time outs they would drive it around the court or start circling the UNLV players . I believe Larry Johnson was on that UNLV team. The ole days!

My father had season tickets for us in the early 80s and I always loved the games. You knew when there were some bad calls blind mike was coming out with 3 blind mice. The chants of bull sh*t afterwards that filled the dome were clasic ...

I seem to remember him getting stuck one time coming out of the ceiling and took about 5 or 10 mins to get him all the way to the floor.

No. That was a guy named Brent. He was on the drum line in 1988, I believe, and donned the Mike costume for 1989.

Guy was driving down the road minding his own business when a guy coming the opposite direction lost a trailer he was pulling. The trailer veered into Brent's lane and sheared the top of his car off...including Brent's head. He had the Mike costume in his trunk. Very sad.
