Greenbrier basketball set up reminds me of the LSU gym armory

I played and officiated many intramural basketball games in the LSU gym armory. The set up at Greenbrier reminds me of it with the stage and curtains. It also served as the practice facility for LSU basketball before the Assemb;y Center opened. I was walking through one day as the team practiced and abasket ball rolled toward me. I picked it up and fed the Pistol for a layup. The building is now the Academic Center for Athletes.

Looked like they were playing in a hotel ballroom.

I was there…in was 100% a ballroom. It was cool how intimate is was tbh though. Only one hall to get in and out so I was able to talk with John Brady and some of the players as I was chilling in a comfortable wingback chair after the game.

I’m jealous. I considered planning a trip for this tournament when it was announced since the timing would be good to be back for family Thanksgiving festivities. Seeing the setup made me regret not pulling the trigger. Cool, intimate setup. And the wingback chairs were pretty cool, if a bit weird.

When they want to spend the large amount of money it will take to make it meet the bare minimum amount of standards to host a game.

We would yank the door open and play in there all night until campus security would kick us out
