All he really has to do is appoint the deputy directors and leave Wray an impotent figurehead. That has a poetic justice to it.

with the FBI term being 10 years, he is probably waiting for Wray to officially step down before naming a replacement.

Yep on day one shut the building down and turn it into a museum. Send all agents out to do what they are supposed to do, be a cop.

the position is supposed to be apolitical. it's to keep continuity. but they serve at the pleasure of POTUS and can be removed at any time.
Trump is not currently POTUS. He can't ask for his resignation yet.
