"I see teams all the time that have speed and don't know how to use it. We are able to effectively get ours in space against inferior speed"

Geez man you're reaching. He was referring to pretty much all of their opponents.

He's probably talking about utilizing his fast players on the punt/field goal block unit.

I bet it's probably referring to Miles and LSU with the way they handled TH.

Thats anyone's guess obviously but he has made statements before about he wonders why LSU doesn't do certain things and get the ball to certain players and yada yada. LSU has underused incredible athletes for years and has become famous for it in my opinion. From what I see Florida, USC and LSU are the most athletic and fastest teams in America year in and year out in the last 5 years. LSU has so many weapons on offense that never get the touches to do what they do. I can promise you if Urban Meyer or anyone that thinks outside the box offensively were at LSU it would be absolutely sick. One of the main reasons UF is where they are is because of what Meyer said in your comment. If Les Miles ever gets ahold of this thought then LOOK out. I every year when I see so many freakish athletes that LSU has just stand on the sidelines and are never used. Florida has 5 Trindon Holliday's and they use EVERY ONE OF THEM. LSU hardly uses the one we have. Congrats to UF. Great coaching job by Meyer and his staff.

Miles vs Meyer

2005 LSU
2006 UF
2007 LSU
2008 UF

If he's talking about LSU, then he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Our staff only giving KW 83 attempts this year may be what he had in mind, and of course putting him on a 1 TD/game limit last year as well.

Florida wouldn't look so fast without Percy.

I'm sure Meyer does things that leave other coaches scratching their heads as well.

Not that I'm a coach, but it wasn't apparent to me why he kept running Demps up the gut from that one formation. Maybe he was trying to set something up, but it seemed like they wasted quite a few plays with that...

I would bet yes. And I think this is an aspect of him being a negative recruiter. I bet that is exactly the kind of thing he would tell skill players like Debose: "Hey Andre, sure LSU has a lot of good athletes and is a fast team, but they don't use it effectively. I, on the other hand, know just what to do with your talent." Being able to get air time with those comments at a press conference, then winning the game will only solidify a given recruit's opinion that Urban is correct, whether there is much truth in the statement or not. Pretty clever of him if that is his angle.

Maybe he has more speed than LSU and USC, maybe not. Difficult to know. If UF was fastest this year and won the title, maybe LSU was faster last year when we won... and Miles and his staff effectively used the team's speed then. Maybe LSU will be faster next year and will use it well.

Kind of arrogant to say he could use our speed better, and he can get away with saying it because he will never have to back it up. Anyway, from what others have said, it wouldn't surprise me if that is his motive.

Both the Magician and the Chief know how to use speed: wait till next year and the next year, and the next year!

We will be getting faster and faster the next few years.

Well, I think it's a fair point to make that Miles and company have not utilized the talent to its full potential thus far.

the triple option shuffle underneath to the tightend was killer. we need to run that with JJ and RD and KW

so in your opinion did meyer use his skill guys more effectively than michigan last year?....yeah meyer is a great coach but hes not some messiah....he misuses players (as said before demps in the NC) while I would like to see more TH and maybe a little more KW, but I think that with the way the rest of the offense was built the past couple of years (the qbs, the other wrs) I think that we played to our strengths....theres more than one way to skin a cat, and I believe our offense last year was the highest scoring in LSU history, so Id say for the most part, we have effectively used our talent over the miles tenure. There may be a player or game, here or there that leaves you scratching your head but overall i think the results have worked
