There are really only three true potential GOTY options imo

Astrobot is my GOTY. Brilliantly designed and a ton of fun.

I’m currently playing FFVII Remake on Hard to get the platinum before I start Rebirth, and god it’s miserable. This game was so fricking padded. Could’ve easily shaved off 30% of the content and had a much better game. Chapter 13 is absolute agony with the backtracking and tedium

I finished a ng + run on merciless. Did you beat the game and get 100% of all the end game stuff you could acquire on your first run or not? Like getting the heroes ultimate weapon, etc

To be fair theres very few straight up fetch quest in the entire 120 hour long game. There are simple ones in the first zone, some shite ones throughout (chicken rangler lol) but most always tie in with one of the party members, interact with other mid major characters, or provide development for the party. Some of the slew that unlock before the point of no return are more go here do that sometimes like the worm in cosmo canyon but you get all materia for it and another at that same time is the one with cisne interacting with her and aerith about zach. Its an extremely long game and most are for more good than bad. MY only critique is it is simply longgggggg

No, I don’t believe that. People who are into Elden Ring think it’s god’s gift to gaming, and they are vocal as frick about it. It’s not any more complicated than that.

Because in most years, there wouldn’t be enough eligible entrants to make for an interesting category. Plus, what little DLC there is is usually crap. When there’s a major DLC/expansion that shoots the moon, I don’t see an issue with including it as long as it’s judged on its merit alone and doesn’t get to claim any shine from the original game.
