Wife has a business trip near Fresno in Nov. and wants me to tag along. I'm looking at the John Muir Lodge and the Wukaschi Lodge for a couple nights either prior to or after her work week. Has anyone stayed at either? What can you tell me about them or the parks or anything else worth seeing in that area of California. Thanks.

Muir lodge is nice, food is better than it needs to be. The hiking in sequoia is world class, some of the best I’ve ever done. You will stare in wonder at the trees. Easily could spend a week and not see a fraction of it

kings canyon is more of a drive and look but breathtaking

I’d be surprised if there are rooms in the lodge. Check now.

Years back, I drove in to Sequoia NP and camped in Kings Canyon at Cedar creek I believe was the camp. The driving to and from kings canyon was enough of the canyon for us. We did enjoy a few short hikes in there and seen some beautiful but chilly waterfalls. It was phenomenal driving on what seemed like cliff edge for a flatlander in my brothers 5 speed 4x4 yota. It was soul touching and that wasn’t even the best part.
Seeing Lake Hume from up high and then driving down next to it gives you a point of difference in elevation you cover. Panoramic point was my favorite spot but easy to miss if you’re not adamant about seeing it. MR was kinda challenging but easy to pace yourself. The viewpoint was unbelievable also. The trees themselves being out your inner most earthy soul. I’d love to spend two weeks there and then Yosemite also but that will have to wait as i have my first Cubs fan on the way.
I hope you enjoy yourself as that was one great experience. Looking forward to your follow up.

Bumping this.

Thinking about taking the family for fall break in late Sept. Seems like two full days in Sequoia(maybe more?) is realistic?

We'll be there with our two boys that will be 13 and 9 at the time, so several hours of hiking a day is realistic for us.

Anything else in the area we should look into? Stayed between Bryce and Zion last year and did both parks and an ATV tour to some slot canyons close to Zion. Basically looking for that kind of stuff.

We'll probably fly into LA and drive up and spend 3-4 days in the Three Rivers area(airbnb/vrbo) and then back to LA for a day and home the next.

3 days in sequoia would be better. There’s plenty to see and do. And if you are going to sequoia, Yosemite is right there…

I thought about that. Not sure if I want to cram that in one trip or not. We like to have one homebase on trips like these instead of splitting it up, but it may make sense for this trip. Yosemite is 2.5-3 hours from where we'd stay for Sequoia so we'd have to split it up. We'll be flying in and out of LA, so the drive back from Yosemite is not ideal considering the potential for LA traffic to make it that much longer.

I looked at Fresno, but it looks like only 1 direct flight on Delta from Atlanta a day. LA has lots of options at multiple airports.

We'll be going to Yosemite for a week in August - driving from NW Louisiana. The plan is to make some stops there and back. Ive already scheduled out home games for the Giants, Dodgers, Angels, Padres, and Diamondbacks. Mrs. Adajax wants to see the Sequoias. Any other must do's there and back. If we have the time we going to get to Antelope Canyon.

FYI, Yosemite implementing a reservation based system. It will depend on when in August you’re planning on going there.
