For those not familiar, if you have ever heard of the band Quicksand, who had a couple albums in the 90s with commercial success/MTV airplay, Walter the frontman for that band came up in the hardcore/punk scene and was the guitar player/song writer in one of the iconic NYC"Youth Crew" bands, Gorilla Biscuits. They have been playing some sporadic shows since did their first reunion show several years ago.
I grew up listening to them and skating to their music along with Black Flag, Minor Threat etc. Walter is one of my musical heroes. I love everything he has ever been involved in... Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today, Quicksand, Rival Schools.
GB absolutely killed it! Crowd was about half old farts like me, and half younger kids in their 20s going completely ape shite, singing every word, stage diving etc. Such a fun show and made me feel young again... at least for a couple hours.

I go to almost all the hardcore shows in DFW. I have also shot photos of most of the DFW HC shows since 2009.
Seen GB a lot, great live show.
My favorite DFW show was GB and Judge

Also that first Quicksand 7" is one of my favorites. My favorite song is probably Clean Slate.
And their first full release Slip rules too

How'd you like the Vivarium? I was there for the first time last week to see Gatecreeper, Frozen Soul and Worm. Not as many old farts like me there as there probably were at your GB show but I always enjoy seeing live death metal.

Seeing my friends in Frozen Soul play a hometown show in FTW tonight.

I always preferred Quicksand to GB, but its always funny going to shows when any old school hardcore bands are touring... Im usually one of the younger people in the crowd and I'm 50 +

Chad loves him some circle pit action. If you're lucky you'll get to see push ups or a game of Magic the Gathering in the pit.

I tried listening to Quicksand because I heard they sounded like Helmet but I couldn't get into them.

He seems like he's having a great time up there. I saw them at Milwaukee Metal Fest last year too.

Hell yeah!
Love the first Quicksand 7"... and I lived in Huntington Beach for many years where Revelation Records is headquartered. Love that label. Yeah, Slip is such a great record. Manic Compression is great too. Walter is the man. I love everything he's involved with. Got to see Rival Schools play in a bar in San Diego last year before moving to Wisconsin. It was awesome.

My first time there was for the GB show. I liked it as far as nicer small venues go. Would have preferred to see them in some dingy basement type club to go with the vibe but I thought it was a decent venue. Very non-descript from the outside though. I had trouble finding it.
Wish I would have known about the Gatecreeper show, I would have been there.

Yeah, when I saw GB for the first time about 1.5 years ago in Garden Grove, California (OC), there were a ton of the guys in other 80s hardcore bands and the scene out there at the show, and their friends from Revelation Records, Trust Records etc. I'm about 50 and there were a bunch of dudes significantly older than me and my friends. I love seeing it though!
When I saw Fear for the first time, I was in my late 20s... like 27. Lee Ving was already up there in age. It was at a bar in Costa Mesa, Ca... 3/4 of that crowd looked like dudes 50+ and that was the drunkest, rowdiest crowd at a punk show I have seen yet. They went off. It was awesome.

I always thought they sounded closer to Undertow era Tool at the time that album was out. I loved it.
One of the best shows I have seen yet was Helmet and Quicksand in 1994 at a small venue in Nashville. I'm a BIG Helmet fan here. Well, Helmet from Strap It On through Aftertaste anyway.

So many shows, easy to pass you by. If you like newer hardcore and whatnot keep your eye on the schedules for The Rave and smaller venues like Club Garibaldi and Cactus Club (going to see Poison Ruïn there tonight). X Ray Arcade in Cudahy has some killer shows coming up like Bane & Stick to Your Guns tonight, Kublai Khan & Sanguisugabogg on Monday which sold out in minutes, and Escuela Grind on Wednesday.

Bummed I missed tickets for the Bane show. Was sold out before I found out about it.
