Shep will get red-shirted. He needs to dev. his arm. You can't run the wild tiger every down and no need to blow a red-shirt for only 2-3 plays a game. Why not just have Holiday in the wild tiger. I believe Holiday is a good bit faster than Shep.

what LSU defense will show up? how will our cb's improve? what about our LB issues? pass rush?

So what? Holiday has no wiggle whatsoever. Shep is like a greased pig on roller skates and almost as fast straight line. His first two or three steps are incredible.

The answer is Chavis.

How is that going to play out with Shep is a quarterback and all the coaches in the game last night (including Tubby)were all saying what a
great QB LSU was getting. Looks like a battle
on the horizon.
He knows that if he is going to play QB, he will have to wait at least one year, maybe 2. Another thing Tubby said last night is that it takes even good high school QBs until their 3rd year to get up to speed in leagues like the SEC. If he wants to play now, he is going to have to accept a role other than QB. That said, JJ is going to have to learn the drop-back, pocket passer role a little better. GT's defense wasn't a serious test.

If coach tubbs gives credit to an LSU player..I like it

I just want to know what lee does better than jefferson?
I just want to see what JJ does over the course of a season. JJ played two games.
Lee hung in there as best as he could through a brutal SEC stretch while playing without a defense.
There is a huge difference between preparing to play one bowl game and standing up to an SEC schedule week in and week out.
I think JJ is exciting and brings an element that Lee doesn't with his running ability, but to say that Lee can't improve and challenge him for the starting spot is just premature.
What is difficult to understand about that?

To an extent you are correct, but I believe LSU has a far more talented roster than he's had at Tenn in the past year or two. What our D has lacked has been a scheme that best utilizes the talent we have and coaches who can simplify things to players know where they are supposed to be.
I think Chavis's record speaks for itself. We will be an improved defense next year. Maybe not an elite defense, but we will be improved at our weakest links --Secondary and QB.

yes, but you don't have to be Tubberville to see that he has execptional burst.

they had a solid front 4 and JJ played well, but again, the 2nd half "struggles" kinda worry me
it is amazing how well your offense can play when your defense is just demoralizing your opponant
not taking anything away from JJ, he played really good, but lets at least see how the kid reacts to some adversity, plays in a pressure type SEC game against a SEC defense
the QB position at LSU is oozing with potential, but we have to find sme players in this mix

really? i have to disagree there. i think that is more commonly believed myth than actually true
clear your head of potential....how good is chad jones right now?

that can be argued two ways
i could argue we have a defense full of people who don't put forth the effort into buying into the scheme taught by their coord..kids that aren't "coachable" etc
basically, with chavis, how the D reacts to him will only be seen in time IMO
quote:

his record is more mediocre defenses than elite defenses
our defense this year was more in line with a typical chavis D than what he ahd this year at UT

Well, GT defense was the 25th ranked total defense in the NCAA and it was basically a home game for them. Are we now forgetting this was JJ's second start of the season. He has led the offense to average 34 ppg in his two starts. True he still needs to progress and we have to see how he handles Ga,Fla,Ole Miss on the road but that is what spring, summer and fall is for. He has shown poise and leadership as true freshman. Can't wait for next year.

I think you would be wrong to argue this. Our defense was clearly confused lots of the time. many many times the play call would not get to the defense until seconds before the snap. Many players looking over to the sidelines with arms raised. That's not on the players my friend. Potential is one thing as you have stated, but without coaching and proper development it will never fully blossom. The malveto experiment didn't make our players better. I'm not saying that Chavis is Buddy Ryan, but our defense will be much improved next year.

I've already called The Doc out on his change of opinion on Lee a few weeks ago. He thought Lee was great and threw "one of the best deep balls in the country".
I think the people who are so positive that JJ is the unquestioned future of LSU are mostly the same people who proclaimed that LSU was title bound after Lee's comeback in the Auburn game. Very little perspective, and totally overreact to everything that happens.
I personally am very excited about JJ in Crowton's system, but LSU absolutely needs Lee to return and improve because first of all, competition brings out the best, and second, while it sounds cliche, we really are one JJ sprained ankle from being right back where we were this year.
Posted on 1/5/09 at 10:49 am to LSUfan4444
JJ under center, rolls left, pitches back to RS, who runs right, pulls up, throws left to JJ streaking down the left sideline for a TD.
Next series, trade places and run it again.
Alternate until the other teams that it is unfair and Miles is running up the score.
LSU can send my check to charity..............me.
Closest I could get to staying on subject.
