Im building a living quarters out of an old barn on my property. A barndominium as bad as i hate saying that but it is what it is. Through work i have access to pretty good pricing on some mini split units and because the ceilings are going to be tongue and groove vaults with no drop ceiling its the most feasible way to cool and heat the place. The barn will have 2 bedrooms, each with their own bath and shower. A large liiving room/Kitchen area and a small mud room with laundry and will have a really small half bath in it. I found a 55k mini split that i could have a wall hang unit in the main living room/kitchen area and then i could have 4 cassettes, could i just put one cassette in each of the 2 bedrooms and mud room or do the bathrooms need them individually also even though they are attached to those rooms and probably oversized for the square footage.

I’d go with one each in the br, br, kitchen/living, and mud room/laundry. Then if you’re having issues where the bathroom is hot, maybe add a one way fan to force air into the bathroom from the adjacent room.

I just turn on the fart fan exhaust when I heat that place up. Cools off almost immediately.

The problem is the unit can only handle 5 cassettes. The kitchen/ living room area and both bedrooms are obvious. Between the mud room and the 3 bathrooms something has to go without unless I do 2 units that have less kw but are each able to do cassettes

I think I want to do a mixture of a small central ac unit for the common areas and mini splits in bedrooms when i redo my AC in my home.

I did something similar in my hunting camp. 2 BR 1 BA Large open area with kitchen. 3 ton mini split. Larger cassette in main area, one in each bedroom.

Nothing in bath. Washer dryer is in garage/storage area - nothing there (uninsulated and not conditioned)

Put adequate insulation

been working great for 5 years
