From the little bit I have looked at, they do offer health insurance. Has anyone here have any experience with them?

I would imagine health insurance from USAA would be sky high expensive. Check with them and get back to us to let us know.

Great company for home and auto but health insurance? Nah, I'd pass.

They do not underwrite their own policies, they offer it through other HMOs.

I just cancelled my Auto policy with them. It was $1100 every 6 months for my wife and myself. Progressive was $480 for the same coverage. I just added my 16 year old driver and it went up $388, for a total of $868 every 6 months. Homeowners is roughly the same with both companies. I checked on their health insurance, but it was several years ago, so I can’t speak to that.

USAA prices were higher, but increased once they opened enrollment (increased risk with enlisted dudes and crazy 20 year old wives will do that). They've always had better service, but it is different.

You probably already know this, but your rates with Progressive or others will jack up on renewal, because they're betting on you not really paying attention. The compensation rates for new/renewal/bundles policies for the big insurers are insane. There's a Progressive rep spending a month in Europe on your dime next summer.

Oh I’ll be paying attention for sure- as long as it’s less than $2500 for 6 months for the 3 of us, I’ll still be saving money.

I guess you will find out if the savings is worth it, when you need to use insurance. I have been with USAA for over 20 years for banking and insurance, and they have never let me down.

Maybe they are not the cheapest, but they are amazingly easy to work with when you need them.

True- I hope I rarely have to contact Progressive, if ever, but saving over $200/month makes the switch a no brainer. I still have Homeowners, Life, Notary Bond and an Insurance Policy on my wife's wedding ring, so I believe I can still go back if it ever makes sense, but USAA is just not competitively priced in Louisiana anymore.

How?

Had 2 roofs replaced and couple auto repairs, never a single issue.

Banking has been solid through them, and their Credit Card fraud department is top notch.

Totaled an older, low mileage Sequoia. Their estimate was ridiculously low and did not consider the mileage. I showed them prices of similar vehicles from all over the South. They wouldn't change the price and the next level up was almost impossible to talk to. They said take the price or go to arbitration. Got 1/2 value.

Customer for over 20 years at that point / homeowners with them also. Parents, grandparents, extended family all members.

Previous experience with accidents was very good. .

About 25 years ago they attempted to cash a check for the wrong amount and it bounced. Conference called them with a bank manager. They did the exact same thing again and suspended my insurance for non payment. Was pulled over and luckily was not arrested. Couldn't drive for two weeks because of the ticket which was a disaster at the time. USAA never owned up at all but sent me a misprinted golf bag tag for the inconvenience. At this time I was the only person I'd ever known / heard of who had a problem with USAA.

If I had to guess they either 3 party out this or will not be competitive. I've used USAA for 29 years and they have really gone downhill the past 10 years. They once had an investment side that they sold off the Charles Schwab. Their homeowners is not competitive anymore and their car insurance is getting that way as well. I applied to get boaters insurance with then and it went straight to Progressive. I must have had 10 car loans through them with no trouble until this year, they totally screwed up the dealer funding and i had to reapply for the loan and go back to the dealer to re sign paper work.

It coincides with when they expanded membership eligibility a little before that. With higher risk members (enlisted pukes, grandkids of vets, etc) losses went up and prices had to adjust.

I only have to call them once a year on average, so don’t have much exposure to customer service, but they’ve been above average
