What the hell are our public schools doing?

I just went to the grocery store to pick up a couple of things.
The total was $9.23. I had some cash in my pocket so that's how I intended to pay.
I peeled off a $20 and saw that I also had a quarter so I gave it to the woman at the register. The look of panic on her face was immediate.
The assistant manager saw it too and stepped over quickly to help. He looks at her register screen and says "we'll have to do it this way".
He pulls out his phone and starts doing something with it, then tells her to give me back a wrong amount that was too much.
I said "that's not right" and another manager comes over and starts pushing buttons on the register and comes up with a different wrong amount.
I told them, "you owe me $11.02".
By then a teenage girl cashier and a bag boy had stepped over and both had their phones out calculating.
I said out loud to all of them " A fifth grader should be able to figure this in his head in 2 seconds, we've got to do better". It's true too.
Of course, they all looked mad, and the cashier handed me my money.
I don't care though. We all need to start saying something in these situations. We pay taxes for these results.

There doing exactly what the Marxists in the Department of Education has told them to do for the last 50 years. It's been a slow and gradual process, but has definitely done it's damage. Started at the Universities and worked its way down to the elementary level.
Today, most educational institutions are more concerned with teaching CRT and woke insanity than teaching how to read, write, and do math.

Grammar is a little bit important, but not as important as math is.

Unfortunately, I was married to one of those for a brief while.

Have never done this.
Write maybe 1 check a year.
Nobody balances a checkbook anymore.

Typical liberal response, as I see it.

Meh. I am probably one of the older posters on this board and I remember similar things happening to checkout men and women back in the seventies.
If they had good math or other skills they would not be doing this most basic of jobs. This is not a new phenomenon. Is it worse that it was back then? Not really in my observation.

Seem this play out many times at the gas station. Get some Gatorade, total $5.50, pull out a $20 and say I'll take $14.50 in gas on pump 2, and the confusion sets in.

I'm glad you take the banks word for it or you just don't have any money in your account. Either way, it's important to know your finances.

And there is your problem.

So, you don't think things should be better by now?

Phones and bad parents contribute to this. Math skills in USA are low, low, low. Dumb society.

The one goal the public schools have is indoctrination. They are succeeding.

Stupid people do as they are told and do not ask questions. When smart people see something that doesn't add up they question it. The establishment wants ignorance and conformity. It makes ruling easier, less resistance then you get with intelligence and curiosity about things.

Please list all of these people’s race and correct gender identity. Were any of them in the country from 4 seas away as a “migrant”.
These things are the only things that matter now. Thank you for your taxes on those goods
