What companies are currently writing homeowners policies in SWLA?

I'll be putting a new roof on my house shortly- cash pay.
I've filed 3 claims over 4 policy terms with State Farm. They denied 2 claims on my roof and its been a battle. I fully expect them to drop me. It needs to be replaced, so bad I'm paying the $21K myself to have it done. It's leaked 5 times in the past three years due to storms and been patched to hell. One leak caused about $6K in damage to an exterior wall.
I hate State Farm and would actually pay more to move away from them if I had the option. They deny everything and I have no confidence they'll stand up and do whats right when needed.

How many squares?

They have it quoted as 171. I'm guessing thats bundles and so thats 57 squares. I also have a steep steep roof.
Lake Area Roofing here in LC if you know them. I've gotten great feedback. Poole wanted $6K more.

You thought about doing a fortified roof to help with insurance?

I have no complaints and they've been fair. I can't complain. They're solid and so I'm confident going with them.

Super fair Man. If you look up insurance companies I would call and ask if they offer discounts for fortified and check in your local area for inspectors on it man

What’s a ballpark difference in cost between a roof and a fortified roof? Also, what do they do to the roof that makes it fortified?

Interesting. I can apply for a $10,000 grant through the State to fortify the house. Limited to LC area. Opens Sept 18th.

I’m in Jennings and moved to USAA in June from State Farm. Similar shtick with claim/denial from State Farm.

Yea good company and the price seems fair for 57 squares on a steep pitch. The cost estimator would allow for way more which is why you had such a variety of prices.
If you wanted to risk the warranty aspect there are crews around that will do it for $100 per sq if you buy the materials and rent the dumpster. That could cut your cost in nearly half but again no warranty.

Are these just uninsured crews running around ? Sounds problematic for insurance policy proving roof replacement

Why? You will have material receipts as proof. Nothing says you can't act as your own GC on your own house in Louisiana.

Some companies want to see licensed contractor receipts as proof since you know they are insuring the house being worked on.

I don't see ever being able to cash in a roof warranty. I'm told its basically impossible for shingle companies to pay you and the labor is always subjective. They ain't gonna pay for anything caused by storms- then it becomes subjective.
I won't use a random crew because I have no idea what I'm doing and can't get on the roof to check their work, even if I knew.
You got someone who can redo a shower at a good price? I'll take that contact. Got a leak and needs to bust out tile, fix leak. Wholesale remodel. I bought the materials already.

We had a big Laura claim through Allstate and they made it right. Have auto, life, and home through them for discounts. They’re not the cheapest I’m sure, but they were fair.
