according to what I've read on here, Johnson said something along the lines of LSU shouldn't be playingon the same field as GT.

He's right, but not because of why he thought.

The ACC doesn't belong anywhere close to LSU

This is so out of left field that I had to laugh.

No no no. There was no rub at all and those comments are not correct.

Go listen to the teleconference.

A reporter asked him right after it was announced "Are you disappointed that you are not playing a ranked team in the bowl game."

His response was...some paraphrase....'Well...sure....you always want to play as highly ranked an opponent as you can. However, LSU is a "formidable opponent" and "defending national champion."

Paul Johnson was saying that you cannot control what a team is ranked...and that LSU was a good team.

Paul Johnson said that "LSU was the most talented team we will have faced" prior to the game.

Yup- GT looked like they should have been on the blue field at the Humanitarian Bowl, and LSU played like a championship football team last night.

Johnson was right, LSU looked like they should have been playing someone much better than his Yellow Jackets last night.

One word- BEATDOWN!!!

"ASSIGNMENT FOOTBALL:" By accident or design, Georgia Tech football coach Paul Johnson poked fun at LSU head coach Les Miles and defensive co-coordinators Doug Mallory and Bradley Dale Peveto at a press conference the day before the game. But LSU's coaches had the last laugh.

"I get a chuckle out of people when they say, 'It's really assignment defense,'" Johnson said in reference to what many opposing coaches say about defending the triple-option attack of Tech.
Paul Johnson's remarks at a pregame press conference with CLM.

"When isn't it assignment defense? I mean I don't care what offense you're playing, you're in the wrong gap or you blow your coverage, you get lit up," Johnson said with Miles seated right next to him.

At the same podium one day before, Mallory and Peveto repeatedly said defending Tech was "assignment football." Miles also used the same term several times over the last month.

Regardless, if he said anything at all before calling a fake punt inside his own 30 that early in the game he should be shot.

He was out coached by Miles and miles. It was total beat down.

He also went on to say the following in the same article.

quote:

“Clearly, they were bigger and faster than us,” Johnson said. “That football team underachieved in my mind. They’ve got some players. There’s a reason they were so highly ranked early in the season. This team was really physical.”

You think?

Can't wait to see how this team responds to a new D coordinator, line and secondary coach, top recruiting class and maturity at the quarterback position.

I tend to lean to hiver's account of this. It sounds about like what a coach would say.

Ummmm ... methinks Coach Johnson lost the urge to "chuckle" about LSU's "really assignment defense" somewhere in the midst of the first half of the Chikin bowl.

That dude had the most clueless look on his face last night, it was priceless. I imagined by the second half he was looking across the field like on the movie Water Boy and seeing Les snickering at him like Jerry Reed and he was shivering with fear....probably even called chan gailey at half for help.
