To all you who claim St Aug is loaded every year, I respectfully disagree. Every year the might have one or two D1 guys, but this year it's more like 10 to 12 and I'm being conservative. If they had a solid qb, they'd be unstoppable. Ive watched HS for a longtime and refereed for a few years. These guys different.

This year's St Aug team is the most I've ever seen.

I wouldn’t take 90% of these know it all idiots seriously. They never have anything to offer except to trash other peoples comments. If St. Augs had the talent they are saying, we’d be plucking them left and right. We get a few from that program but it’s not a huge number. It could very well be a year where they are just stacked and is different but don’t tell these experts that. Also if they have 10 to 12 then a QB shouldn’t stop them from going undefeated.

Hell if you have that type of talent then stick your best athlete at QB and run the read option all day or just run the ball and play D. Edna Carr is a program that always has talent as well. It may not be well known talent and could be underdeveloped but you always see college players who went to that school.

I hope LSU starts looking at these mainstay programs closer from now on with the new roster numbers. We could land some of these guys and really build something special when they develop. We won’t hit on all of them but just hitting on 2-3 a year would be huge. Landing a low 4* or 3* and they end up contributing like a 5* could happen regularly after recruiting those types of players for 4-5 years. Maybe they are 6’3 and 250 lbs but have family members that are 6’5 and 300+ lbs with an athletic history. You go get those dudes and develop them.

Maybe it’s a TE who ends up playing tackle or DE. Maybe it’s an OLman who ends up on defense or a DE who ends up at tackle. Could have a QB who ends up playing WR or a RB who ends up playing at LB. I’d start taking more chances on players who look the part but might be a little undersized at the moment.

i feel like there are probably some kids that went to St Aug that you do not realize went to St Aug.

In the golden age of LSU football (Saban-present), there are not many Louisiana high schools that have sent more kids to LSU than St Augustine

That would have worked under Tony Biagas & Burton Burns because they loved complimentary football and running the ball.

But they had solid players at all positions never needed to replace QBs.

That was late 1980s-1999 when they sent many players to D-1 schools and a dozen or so to the NFL.

That's not even considered with coaches that are intent on QBs in shotgun formations with 4 and 5 receivers...

Many high schools and colleges can't run successful successive offensive plays with the QB under center nowadays!

It's a flawed offensive strategy imo!

Smaller high schools might put their best athletes at QB to keep the ball in his hands.

Schools that feel they have athletes all over the field won't do it!

The St.Aug team featuring future
LSU players Mathieu,Trae Turner and Johnna Austin had St.Thomas More on the ropes .

I would have put Austin and Turner on the same side and ran every single down!

Too much passing leading to incompletions and clock stoppages!

STM scored on their last possession to take the lead.

Aug put Mathieu at WR and attempted to get 1 of their 3 college bound receivers in a 1 on 1 situation in a 5 receiver set..

They ran out of time, timeouts etc.

Lack of talent has not ever been an issue at St.Aug even after Katrina!!

The kids quitting football in their junior and senior years is a problem!

The talent leaving and transferring is a problem.

They have lost contributing, talented players to a few good programs in recent years..

The RB at Lafayette who graduated from Shaw was there.

The then sophomore LB who
starred on Rummel's defense 2 years ago was there.

Rather then return to Aug he played at JFK New Orleans and will be a senior this season.

He is a D-1 prospect.

They lost a 6'5 lineman 2 years ago because he was unhappy with the coaches.

Over the summer 2024 they lost a 6'4 lineman who started on both the 8th grade and 9th grade teams.

He is a 9th grader at DeLaSalle now.

Curtis wanted him and his best friend that's another 6'5 9th grader.

They played travel football together during the Pandemic when NORD was shut down.

6 of the players entered St.Aug as 8th graders including 3 OL..

Talent still needs to be coached.

Coaches on all levels need to put the team and the individual players in position to succeed!

Too many high school coaches nationwide are not doing enough coaching before gameday..

It's the 7 on 7 football mentality which is getting as bad as AAU and high school basketball .

As far as LSU plucking them left and right....

I have a different perspective

Lorenzo Scott (6'4 Center) was personally recruited by Governor John McKiethen to become the 1st Black football player at LSU.

Scott signed with Notre Dame becoming the first NOLA player in 10 years to be signed by the Irish.

Burton Burns then signed with Bob Devaney at Nebraska.

No Louisiana high school had more D-1 players from 1969-1977 as St.Aug....

After being shunned by Scott ,LSU didn't seriously recruit St.Aug even during St Aug's dominate 1970s run..

They didn't seriously recruit any players off the '70,'71,'72 teams which had the best combined total wins in AAAA and sent 10+ players to D-1 and 18 players minimum each of the 3 years to D-1,D-1AA....

Those players played in the SWC,Big 8,ACC...

Locally at USL,Tulane..

They were recruited nationwide but not by LSU?!

3 players that were members of the 1973 Tulane team.

2 players at Oklahoma that made the NFL.

1 QB signed by Notre Dame that led the freshman team to an undefeated record and beat out Tom Clements in Spring football and was number 1 on the depth chart preseason.

They beat many schools for 2 targets in the late 1970s.

They got Marcus Quinn and Malcolm Scott 2 years apart.

Both of those dudes played professional football but 5 others that played professional football weren't recruited by LSU. .

In the 1980s and 1990s Aug had 15 D-1 players that made the NFL that weren't heavily recruited by LSU starting with Brian Taylor, Leroy Hoard..

Not to mention the other college players that weren't recruited by LSU.

They did successfully recruit receiver Nemo Bates...

Of the 10 Aug D-1 future NFL players from the 2000s ,LSU successfully recruited: Chad Jones,Tyrann Mathieu,Trai Turner,Leonard Fournette.

They also signed Lanard Fournette,Al Jones Jr,Johnna Austin..

Can't sign every player no doubt.

It can't be overstated that since Saban,New Orleans schools including St Aug ,have been taken more seriously in recruiting.

Frank Wilson's St.Aug ties and New Orleans Public Schools ties have also made LSU a great opportunity and option for NOLA kids.

Out all the NFL Purple Knights from the 2000s, I thought receiver Stanley Morgan was a good fit for LSU..

He signed with Nebraska who didn't pass as much as LSU.

I also thought BenJarvis Green-Ellis was overlooked by LSU.

He was freshman player of the year in the Big Ten before transferring to Ole Miss where he was easily their best offensive player.

I know they didn't give any serious consideration to Selvish Capers who played tight end and switched to tackle at West Virginia.

He also played basketball and was pretty athletic.

Lorenzo Doss(Tulane,NFL) and his brother Lee Doss(Southern, NFL)....

The St.Aug kids in the last 20 years to present don't care about history.

After seeing LSU's championship teams,LSU's draftees; if they are seriously recruited by LSU they will give serious consideration to signing there...

All high school players today have more distractions, influences and so called influencers, handlers in their life then ever before!

With all the different people in their ears trying to influence them, if they feel slighted, ignored, disrespected by a school that is a wrap!!

Even the kids who don't have outside noise influencing them don't want to be ignored..

As originally stated there's always talent at St.Aug....

Mathieu wasn't recruited until he had a stellar summer camp performance .

Capers was a 2 star who made the NFL...

5 or 6 of the NFL St.Aug dudes since 2006 were not rated above
3 stars yet yet they had strong college careers, were drafted and made a professional roster.

I saw when LSU honored him and the other 2 guys that signed after him.

I've met Terry Robiskie who I believe became the 1st player from Louisiana to sign.

1 of the coolest and nicest men you'll ever meet.
