Giving a Louisiana registered vehicle to someone in Florida. What is needed?

I'm giving my nephew a car. I'm going to drive it to him this weekend as a surprise for starting his senior year.
I'm driving it there with a Louisiana plate but will fly back and take plate with me.
I was giving it to him for no price. It's it better to still claim a small sale price or can you do a person to person donation?
I have title, does Florida require title transfer or do you just sign over the title? Meaning do they require a notary?
I've bought cars before with just a signed title and a copy of the owners drivers license. I'm not sure if I can transfer title Saturday and know I can't Sunday.

In LA, there's no tax on a donation, not sure about FL.
You'll likely need a notary, and they probably have a notary open on Saturday.
You can Google your location where you'll be, and see if one is open on Saturday.

I did this recently in MO and all I needed to do was sign over the title. And I did it as a donation. He can probably download the title form he'll need in FL and it will tell him if he needed anything else. Don't recall but I might have needed to sign a MO form for him to register the vehicle under a donation as that reduced his tax. But overall it was a pretty easy process.

Plan on going to a notary with the nephew to sign the title and a bill of sale. FL should have an act of donation form or procedure to follow. You should keep a copy.
He will have to go to the dmv to get the registration done for a FL plate. I’d think all can be done on a Friday afternoon.
Once the dmv is done, I’d wait to cancel your plate on Monday. You do it online for LA. Louisiana doesn’t want the old plate back and why do you need it? Leave it.
On Tuesday, cancel your insurance after you get the email plate cancellation confirmation.

Be sure that you cancel your registration in LA before you drop the insurance or the LA OMV will screw you. I believe you can cancel it online?

I just bought a car from FL to LA. Florida is a non notarty state for auto bill of sale.

Just sign the title. No gift tax in FL either.
If you date the title it must be transferred within 7 days of that date.
Notary not required

I sold a car to a guy who registered it in FL. I just signed over the title/bill of sale. Didn't hear back that he needed anymore info from me.

One time I messed this up and it cost me $600. I'm like 3600 in lifetime dmv fees now.

Ok. I didn't think they required notary. Thanks.

I am doing the same thing this weekend in North Carolina. It looks pretty straightforward, but need to find a title place on a Saturday.

He’s probably going to need proof of insurance for them to be able to register it. So just heads up to handle that before you drive to the auto title place

just sign the title over, make a bill of sale that it was a "gift" and he can register and title the vehicle in his name.
How do you gift a car to someone in Florida?
It is legal to give a car to a family member or anyone else, however, a bill of sale or an affidavit should be completed by both parties to verify this information for the Department of Revenue.

quote:Correct. Florida does not require a notary. Fill out the Florida notice of sale. It’s not necessarily needed because you can just sign the the title, but it makes it easier for the transfer FL Bill of sale form 82050
