So, has there been any word on making a move on the defensive coordinator position? Is Gibbs locked in at the spot? Any rumblings? Haven't been around lately, so someone update me.

With the names like Marinelli and Crennel on the market now, you would think they may warrant a look.

I'll go out on a limb and say that the Saints probably won't be able to pay what these guys would want?

we are only a few players short of a solid defensive unit.. as far as coaching i dunno cuz it seems like theres teams with equal talent as us who don't blow games late like we have.

man, if so, i just dont see this team being more than a wildcard team next year. it will be the same stale, boring, hapless 'scheme' we have seen over the last three seasons. now sure with a couple decent safeties and some pass rush it might look a little better.

I agree completely with this. I think one of the glaring needs is obviously a FS, which should be addressed. There is no way we can be competitive with what we have on the roster. I'd hope they cut every FS on the roster and sign a vet and then draft one.

One thing that I'm really excited about is Tracy Porter. If he can stay healthy I honestly believe he is the real deal and a bright spot in our recent drafts. I think he'll come along nicely this year barring injuries.

Grant and Smith must step up their game. It has to happen, we have so much money tied up into them that they need to start earning them. I don't think that sacks tell everything. But when teams are dropping back and just abusing our secondary they need to get some hurries, pressure, sacks or anything. I didn't see much of that from them this year and that has to change. They've got a promising DT in the middle now so they need to start getting it together. To be honest I like McCray being in the game and what he brings.

I think linebackers for the most part are decent. We've just got a lot of money tied up into the D-line and hopefully signing Vilma. So I don't know if we can replace Shanle this year unfortunately.

(when I say they are decent I mean that I don't know how much flexibility we have to address this in FA because I am counting and hoping we re-sign Vilma so I'm not sure we can go out and spend a big amount on replacing Shanle)

I think Roman Harper is promising although most are going to be down on him, he has room for improvement but he's still fairly young. I think with the right people surrounding him and the right scheme he can be successful at least for now.

Overall, we've got to make a few moves but I hate Gibbs. I think he needs to go, now. I think another D coordinator can come in and get a hell of a lot more out of the defensive players that we have. It's sad to watch and we continue to see the same things over and over with Gibbs's tenure.

On offense I think we're fine, it's basically the defense.

Also say a prayer that Mckenzie makes it back and plays like a 25 year old.

Maybe, but we don't have the players for it anyway. Would cost too much to change.

we'd waste 2 years more minimum of Brees' prime if we tried switching to the 3-4. Not to mention acquiring vilma would be a complete waste
