North AL "Predator Watch" group catches teacher trying to hook up w/ 15 year old

Apparently the group is one of the online "To Catch a Predator" type groups. The teacher in question is in the Fayetteville (Tennessee) City Schools system. The school system is investigating, the teacher is on leave, and the group is taking a victory lap.

I'm more concerned with these type groups somehow outting a legitimately innocent person. I don't really know if it is possible, but it seems like it wouldn't be too hard to impersonate a person online and get them into some shite. If these groups immediately go public without vetting the info it would destroy an innocent person.
I don't know if that's even possible, though.

These groups ofren do good work in the end, but they are mostly doing it for social media clicks and notoriety.
It doesn’t mean they aren’t identifying predators, but it does open up the possibility of mistakes.

A guy I grew up with got busted twice by those type undercover guys.
He kept going online trying to pick up 15cyear olds when he was in his late 20's.
frick that dude and thanks to the guys that busted him.
His family moved to Saudi for a few years when he was a kid, and I swear something happened to him over there.

What does this even mean?
If I’m not normally one to sell drugs, and someone says “hey do you want to come sell drugs” and I say yes and get caught, I sold drugs and got cuaght.

The article doesn't sound like he ever tried to meet her. It never mentions a meeting. It says they communicated and he sent some explicit messages.

Well, of course if he had his face in the pics. If not, it could be any random dick. I'm just spitballing, wondering if some vindictive a-hole wanted to set up some fake social media account and email address spoofing someone they want to embarrass/get into some deep shite. All they'd have to do then is contact some of the accounts set up by these groups and start exchanging messages, the group believes they got themselves another pedo and outs the name of the person on the internet. That genie will never be put back in the bottle.
There are a bunch of these groups now, no doubt driven by the viral popularity some of the others have gotten, and if they don't properly vet their info they can do some serious damage to innocent people.
All kinds of shite is possible. Hell, we just had to deal with another round of friend requests from my aunt who has been dead for over a year and has had her Facebook account deactivated completely for a while now. Some of the latest accounts have her pictures dating back years, just like they spoofed the account entirely.

A lot of it is entrapment and cops won’t take the case. However most cops and judicial systems do nothing anyways so I’m glad these people are out there exposing pedos which hopefully will deter them, alert others, and protect children.
