Why do my Eero and AT&T modem hate each other?

Seriously irritating AF. I’ve had dozens of tech exchanges with both and they just blame each other but devices don’t work for a damn quite often.
Basically the issue is when on the Eero network sometimes Wi-Fi just doesn’t work. Speed test comes back zero. If I switch to the att Wi-Fi it will speed test fine. Makes absolutely no sense.

Unfortunately Eero is not a very good product, and from my research it never has been. If you want your system to work as expected look to Ubiquity or Orbi. I am using Orbi, and have been for quite a few years, with absolutely no issues. As a heads up to everyone on the forum there is a new fiber company in Louisiana, Vexus Fiber. They are pushing the Eero mesh system hard. You can sign up and use your equipment, but if you have any issues their tech support will not offer any assistance, because you didn't rent their Eero Mesh system for life. How do I know this? I tried them for one week, and instantly lost my access to every thing ESPN/Disney. Why, because they had my external IP showing I was in Los Angles, and Disney/ESPN took me to be out of my area. Vexus refused to change my external IP because I wasn't using their router/mesh system. Becareful people, of offers that seem too good to be true.

That's a very nice way to say that eero is crippled by having basic features locked behind a sub paywall, features that have been available for free in every router for a quarter century, and it only sometimes performs its basic function of a wifi AP that provides access to the internet.
Get 2 or 3 UniFi Express units, OP. Or if you want something a little more "pro" we can talk about other Ubiquiti stuff.

Which AT&T modem/router and which Eero model do you have? Do you have the main Eero plugged into the modem in DMZ mode where it passes through the external IP address and Eero handles all of the DCHP, or are you running the Eero double natted, or in bridge mode?
I've had issues with the Pace 5268AC interfacing with devices greater than 1 gbps, would default back to 100 mbps without a switch between them.
Are your other stations backhauled via ethernet or relying on the mesh? Have you tried turning off the wi-fi radios on the ATT modem?

Yeah i'm regretting this by. Got the req from a buddy who does a lot of high end home automation and AV work and rethinking this buy because it's been a huge pain in the arse.

ATT BGW320-505
3 Eero pro 6 and 1 Eero pro (bought by mistake but it was doing it before i added that one)

I'm not sure. I'm not so good at this stuff. Rebuilding a Generac on the fly after a lightning strike, sure. This no.
Where would i go to find that out?

they're perfect for your parents because you can set them and forget them..
they are not however good for anything beyond that

quote:I know a few guys like that, as well as at least one ISP that puts eeros behind their own router. It's really weird to me. All I can figure is amazon/eero is doing some marketing in these spaces and I haven't run across it yet. Maybe they are doing affiliate payouts if people end up subscribing for the features?

It's kind of baffling to me because eero is objectively one of the worst wifi/router systems I've ever used.

If you have any sort of "smart" devices that are not made by an amazon-owned company then you might be in for a bad time. A lot of it probably boils down to the inability to split the 2.4 and 5ghz bands.

90% of the irritation is because of tablet and phone use. Or lack of being able to use i should say. I also have all 4 of then hardwired and they constantly try to connect wirelessly rather than running off the cat5. I ended up running the main TV wired directly to the modem because i got so sick of it crapping out.

quote:Man sell all that shite, get a Cloud Gateway Ultra router (or UniFi Express if you want the router to also be a wifi AP), then get several of these if you want ceiling-mounted APs or these if your existing wiring goes to wall plates.

Edit: Also do this regardless of what wifi system you go with.

I agree here. I went through several mesh systems before pulling the trigger on UniFi equipment. I have a few U6 mesh's using a computer as the controller, ROCK solid. This is "pro"sumer grade equipment, if you can figure out the configuration, you're set for a long time. I'll never use anything else.

quote:For those unaware, most of their new router/gateways run UniFi Network (new name for Controller) and UniFi OS on the device so a separate computer or device to run the controller software is not needed. They'll do automatic cloud backups too, so if you ever replace or upgrade the gateway you just restore the backup and you're good to go.

Used them for going on five years, here in Hammond..no one else can even come close to their reliability and speed..

mine says Austin, which is their hub..i dont think you understood what they wanted or needed from you

I've paid $70 for unlimited Gb and never gotten less than 982...I use my own hardware, short of their "modem"....

Are you routing the additional hardwired base stations to the ATT box or do you have them connected through a switch on the other ethernet jack on the base Eero? If they are all connected to the ATT router then they'll only be able to connect to each other wirelessly.

Through a switch.
ATT route>Main eero>switch>other Eeros

It was on passthrough but not the fixed MAC. Maybe that will help.
