Our house is fed by an artisian well (water flows without pumping) and we also have a pump for pulling it into the house. The water that comes out of the well all day is plumbed down to run off into our pond. I'm fine with this but wondered if there was something else I could do with the water.

I thought about putting a ball valve in and having the option to let it flow to the chicken coops for some type of storage/pump solution there similar to a rain collection system. I'm sure I would need a container and some sort of pump to get the water out of the container but could be used to fill chicken water, water garden, clean stuff up.

Looking for some thoughts or suggestions on ways to repurpose the water or if the chicken storage idea is a decent one then what would that require.

an in-line 3gph pump from harbor freight will send the water anywhere you can run pipe to. You could even tie the pump to a small inverter and solar panel and it will have plenty of juice

letting it flow to the pond is a good use of it as is. How far is your chicken yard from the well discharge?

What's the temperature of the water?

During my ac service tech days I went into an attic and was dreading it, it was 95°+ and afternoon, but when i climbed up the stairwell, it was very comfortable, probably mid to upper 80's.. this was a normal attic, no foam, it did have ridge vents but what made the difference was a big water coil about 4'x4' and pretty thick. They were using the pool pump to circulate through the coil which cooled the attic and heated the pool water. This was normal temperature water. If your artesian water is normal temp for artesian.... (67ish) then it should cool better than my example, assuming you have enough flow volume and pressure to feed a 1 1/2" line to the attic for something like that.

It's already running 215 feet to the pond. If I did a T it would be a 60 ft run to the chicken coop.

Water is very cold out of the well, 65-67. No attic, but I do have a pool. Just concerned putting unfiltered water into the pool, well is heavy in iron.

A water cooled A/C condenser coil would reduce your electric bill by a good amount depending on the water temperature.

How many chickens do you have? If you have a substantial number of them then running it to the chicken yard would be a good idea.

Hell I don't know, 30+ wife keeps getting more and they keep hatching more.

We have a hose run across the yard over there now but just seems like I'm missing a good opportunity to have some free water stored up.
