Walking distance or will you drive?

The place we are staying at is about 4 miles to the East.

Call ahead for large parties anywhere you go in the city.
Kind of depends on what you're looking for. If you have small kids, and you just want Tex-Mex at the Riverwalk, you can do Iron Cactus. If you want to drive a little bit, La Fogata is on Vance Jackson and in Alamo Heights. Saluna is in Alamo Heights. Both are established San Antonio places for sit-downs.
If you want steaks, Silo is just down Alamo street from the Riverwalk and is very good. Biga on the Banks is good.
I would recommend Maverick but that's not a steak place. It's expensive and a little further from the Riverwalk, but walkable. Bar Loretta is near Maverick and very good. Those have steaks, quail, kinda artsy stuff but very good.
If you want Italian, go to Nonna on Alamo St. or Allora in the Pearl. Lots of very good restaurants in the Pearl, near downtown. Everything in the Pearl is good. Everything is expensive, too.
Dough Pizza is Neopalitan pizza across the street from Silo. Very good and large for big parties.
If you want some badass pollos asados, go to Pollos Asados Los Nortenos near where you're staying.

Closed. It's an all-you-can-eat sushi place now.

La Fonda on Main isn't on the Riverwalk but another good tex mex option.

Mi Tierra texmex, has a bakery for kids. Food & margs are great. Kids love the cookies and stuff. Not far from Riverwalk.

The McDonalds on the corner
I’d assume any place you pick will be ok. The Riverwalk restaurants were loaded when we were there couple months ago. We really enjoyed our time there.

Mi Tierra and it’s not even close. We split the parillada and it was a feast. I expected just chicken and steak but it was chicken, steak, beef ribs, pork, a stuffed poblano and tons of veggies. I eat a ton at Mexican restaurant and always finish large orders of fajitas. I couldn’t do it here.
