Help with outboard

Looking for some advice. Have a 2000 Yamaha 60 hp. Was out crabbing last week and while traveling at low speeds the boat alarm came on but when I got on throttle it ran perfect and no alarm. Thought I may have had water in fuel so this week added a yamaha fuel water sepaerator and new fuel filter. Took the boat out yesterday and ran it for about 25 mins in which it ran perfect, park it at launch to back truck in. Get back in it start it and boom alarm comes back on at idle. Water pump, thermostat, and impeller were replaced less than 2 years ago, not experiencing any type of limp mode, oil for fuel is manually mixed in tank, and I don't think this model motor has a popit valve so I'm not sure what it could be. Would low oil pressure trigger the alarm and would oil pressure only be low at low speeds on a manually mixed 2 stroke? Could the alarm itself be faulty?

Is it peeing right? Should be a steady, constant piss when at idle. The faster you go the harder it pisses.
Your impeller may be shot and need changing. I've had aftermarket impellers last only 1 year. A Yamaha impeller will last about 3 years. Assuming that it was installed correctly.

Yes strong pee. Start it on hose and water is coming out cool as well.
I should also mention that fuel filter on motor doesn't have an electrical wire so it can't be that either

Do you have different alarms for low oil vs overheat?
Could be the low oil sensor, kill switch is bad or is actually overheating, use an IR thermometer and see how hot the heads are when alarm is going off. All a process of elimination.

I assume you emptied out tank when you added fuel filters. If not do so. I’ve had them do that with water in gas. Filters obviously help but drain the tank if you didn’t start fresh. Good luck

Mine was doing this. Turned out to be impeller even though it was still peeing good. Changed that and all was well.

Swap out the thermostat or just pull it and see why happens

Why would you even have a low oil pressure alarm on a manually mixed 2-stroke? What oil pressure would you measure if the oil is already mixed with the gasoline? I think you would only have oil pressure on a 4-stroke or maybe on an oil injection system.

Good point. Was trying to rule out what the alarm comes on for but sounds like overheating is only reason it triggers

Sounds likely and it could be your sensor failing

If it has the oil tank under the cowl there’s probably a float that could cause an alarm if it gets too low.

Appreciate it guys. Just ordered an impeller and thermostat and will see what happens. Last time it was water pump related I was put into limp mode so it really has me baffled as boat is running without issue

It’s a heat problem. There is no oil pressure sensor on a two stroke. Lord have mercy.

Check and see if it has a poppet valve. If it is stuck open it can create the overheating at idle while pissing at the same time.
