Longlegs Spoilers

I want it to make another thread because of the spoilers.
I thought the movie was phenomenal. Better than silence of the lambs, even though when I watched the movie I kind of knew what was going to happen with the story. But sets long legs is set in the 90s. It’s a good comparison of the era.
I also went into this movie blind without watching any recent trailers or promotional videos. And I saw in the other thread that people are complaining about the ending.
I can’t agree that the ending got a little crazy and far-fetched with the supernatural element. But then again for me it works. Since it is a Satanic cult with some kind of crazy voodoo magic. It’s more believable than just a random person showing some magic abilities. It also helps to see how crazy Nick Cage was, and how good of a performance he did to help believe that he does worship the devil and has crazy voodoo magic from the devil.
Edit: I’ve been seeing a lot of people are saying it is overrated. I can agree with your opinion. But i went into the movie pretty blind. Might have seen one trailer, a movie poster and knew the it follows girl and nic cage was in it. That’s it. Had a free day yesterday and decided to go see it and stayed away from anything online about it. So that’s why I enjoyed it much more than others.

I think the bigger issue people have with the ending from what I’ve seen is the unnecessary exposition dump to end it
Wild take.

The man who lives downstairs. Such a great double entendre. The eyes under the veil, so good. The hints of satan and is shadowy figure appearing every so often in the background. It’s worth a rewatch for sure. What a lovely film. I’d like to edit out the exposition. I’d bet it still plays and is even better without. I think the marketing hyped this film up a bit too much and that’s why folks weren’t completely left blown away. I surely was. Amazing film!

The expectations for this movie made me leaving the theater kind of disappointed. I loved everything about this movie until the last couple of scenes at the end. I get that it's dealing with supernatural elements, but the plot gets a little messy at the end. Character choices made during the movie also made me cringe.
Silence of the lambs is the perfect movie, this is not

Just watched Dan Murrells review and his thoughts are exactly the problem I have with the ending.

Better than silence of the lambs
Ex: silence of the lambs came out in 1991. I remember seeing bits and pieces of the movie on amc in the early 2000s, still a kid. But when movie like that has such an impact other writers/directors start to pull from that movie. So when you finally watch it for the first time (probably during Covid when there was nothing else to do) it doesn’t hit like it should because it feels like you seen this story, or elements from it in other movies.
Plus I loved joe dirt as a kid and there is a whole sub plot about Buffalo bill.

Another review that points out all the plot holes and things that go absolutely nowhere in this film. Not trying to put down the film too much but it just could have been so much better if they tighten up some stuff

What do you know? You’ve got folks who shite on stuff. It’s big business to be critical. All good. I enjoyed the film. It was a hell of an experience and I dug it. I hope you dig it too. As to ranking the film to silence of the lambs or seven or zodiac, I’d rather not do that either. I enjoyed all of those films and the themes are similar.

Pretty weak argument without anything outlining where you specifically disagree with their criticism
Also movie criticism is not that big of a business
It’s good you liked the movie, no one is stating you shouldn’t and most of these reviews posted are still relatively positive in a lot of ways, they just point out some flaws or issues those people found with the movie. If you disagree with those, here’s a great forum to outline what and why that is.

Let’s not get in the weeds. I’m not going to watch the video but you’re welcome to voice their criticisms and we can discuss that here. Sound fair?

You didn’t watch the video but you’re dismissing it entirely? Okay

This is a forum to discuss the film but you don’t want to discuss the film? Interesting.

You’re the one not wanting to discuss it my guy

I do, but I’m not going to watch the video. You did, found it compelling, please illustrate what points you found compelling. We discuss. That’s how this goes. Anyway, the imagery from this film is simply amazing down to the set design of her cabin in the woods. I swear, the world before cell phones, the lack of availability of others, etc. the world just becomes even more…anxiety inducing.

Tone was great. It kept a level of anxiety the entire time. Nic Cage did a great job. I may have preferred a different ending, but no major complaints from me.

The silver ball bull shite was stupid. Other than that, it was pretty good. It felt like a wannabe Ari Aster movie, and that’s not a bad thing. I enjoyed it. It was creepy. But the silver ball bull shite was horrible.

That plus the no explanation of why she has semi psychological powers or what's the reasoning behind the specific dates that makes a pentagram. They offer no explanation of what would have happened if the last girl would have died and they completed it.

I agree with that. I thought Hereditary did this "style" much better.

This movie was good. Not great but good. Cage of course was phenomenal and continues to go all out in every part he plays. I thought the lead actress was kind of dull but I guess that worked for this part.
