I am trying to figure out if it is bugs or fungus. It has been very dry, but i have been staying on top of the watering. This sod is about 5 years old, recently aeriated, top dressed, and fertilized. the dead areas pulls up really easy and is very dry. I did the soap and towel test and did not see any grubs. Anyone have an idea of what is going on?

If you have ruled out grubs or army worms it is going to be drought stress. Bermuda goes dormant and will green back up once it rains.

What is your watering schedule?

since that picture, we have recieved some rain. The surrounding grass is greener and is growing. I know this picutue makes it seem like it was really dry. I have my irrigation to water 20 minutes per zone 2-3 times a week currently. Now the big area in the picture seems to be recovering a little and more of these circle are appearing in other areas of the back yard and front yard.

From my experience, an inch and a half of water is a lot more than most people think it is. Edit: Meaning it takes a lot of sprinkler time to produce 1-2” of “rain”.
I see people online talk about 20 minutes per zone…that dog won’t hunt.

I get in at least two 90 minute waterings on weeks without rain. Sometimes I go two hours at a time.

I agree. i really think it is a fungus or some sort of bug but trying to determine what it is. Some areas of my yard are doing fine recieveing the same amount of water. It is funny the big area seems to be recovering and other areas are popping up that are affected by whatever this is.

Treat for bugs and fungus. But I cannot get rid of the black lawn beetles in mine. Hopefully I'm controlling them some.

Normal heat stress. Bermuda is very resilient and the healthy grass will grow into it. It's a literal weed.

Under the tramp looks fine. Not sure what that indicates, but the stressed stuff will probably be ok. It shutting down and the first to go is the foliage. It’s in root preservation mod.

It isn’t a fungus. There aren’t any hot as hades and dry as your ex wife’s couch type fungus’. What 88 is trying to say is you aren’t putting out as much water as you think you are. I was watering 3x’s a week 35 minutes on pop ups and 45 minutes on rotates and my hotspots were dry the next day.

it is slowly starting to come back with the same water schedule and thankfully some rain. But now if you notice the top left corner, it is starting another brown circle. The second picture, is the right side of my yard on the same watering schedule and it is not nearly as bad. The right side does have some brown spots but not nearly as bad as the left side. The yards behind me.....no watering at all.

Gotta be a fungus right?
Have you treated for it?

Yes, that’s what I was trying to state.

Deep, long waterings are what I do.
The ground is soaked. Then, six hours later, it’s not.

Unrelated - I think you posted that swing set before, but I really like it. I wish we had done that.

I have. it is about as simple as you can get. 4 ea 4"x4" and 1 ea 4"x6". Sort of sad, the kids really don;t use it anymore.

I was trying everything to stop the grass from dying under my kids' swingset and treehouse where they play all the time. I was working hard to combat it and my dad said "One day you'll be a lot more upset when that grass grows back".

not trying to argue with Ronk, but in my opinon it is a fungus or bug. See the two additional pictures. This grass has no irrigation and get just as much sunlight, no aeriation, and no top dressing applied and the grass looks fine. The bown along the fence was the first time it had even been cut so it does look a little stressed.
