Caught lots of small large mouth casting Texas rig worms against the shore. Last day moved about 100 feet away from shore and casted a spinner bait in deeper water.
Only small mouth of the trip. 19’ .

Any tips on lures/technique for catching small mouth on a small lake in Maine? Will have boat for a few days and be in on land for a few days.

Will casting to bank and using large mouth lures work? Plan to fish early morning and late afternoon with top waters.
Thanks

I fished several summers in Canada as a kid. We used deep running crankbaits to good effect. Like crawfish imitation bumping them into the rocks on the bottom.

Also 2" white curly tail grubs on a 1/4 oz jig head bounced on the bottom worked as well.

Never fished topwater so don't have any thoughts on that. Good luck. Wish I was in Maine as well

White beetlespin, crankbaits, wacky worms.
Such a fun fish to catch, makes largemouths look lazy.

If you really want to have fun catching smallmouth, use a 5 or 6 weight fly rod. I use a 5 weight fast action on Ozark streams.

I generally find smallies to focus more on crawfish than largemouth and stepping down in lure size is usually helpful. Instead of a full size jig, a pitching jig or even a micro jig. Same with topwater - if you're used to throwing a pop max, go with a popx. Instead of a showerblows 120, go with the 105 or 77.7, etc...

A few smallmouth specific lures you should try - Megabass Dark Sleeper and great lakes juvy craw (or any tubes really 2.5-3.5")

I have used Canadian Wigglers in Lake Huron since the 60's/70's time frame.
Bounce along the bottom off of rocks(boulders). They used to be chrome but i believe the guy that makes them lost his chrome guy. They are now called silver shiner.

We have smallies out here and I love fishing for them (but I don't do it often enough). They're so aggressive, and will hit like a truck for their size.

In addition to the baits listed, smallies love jigs with rubber skirts on them.

A few I've also caught them on standard spinners and flies (Streamers) in rivers. A few years ago we took a trip on western NC to visit family. My BIL, who's from Scotland but grew up in England was with us. We decided to do an inner tubing trip down the New River which is know for it's smallies. While the rest of the family was getting us checked in, I went in the truck and pulled out my spinning rod. On my first cast, a smallie came like a lighting bolt from behind a rock and nailed the spinner I had on. My BIL looked at me like I was some sort of wizard. I didn't even make another cast...
