Traveling from MSY to Edinburgh on British Airways with a connection in LHR. Will I have to collect my bag in LHR and recheck? Found mixed answers online.

Also - this will be my first time flying out of MSY. Any advice on parking?

If you are booked all the way on the same ticket there is no need to collect bags at LHR. They will go to your final destination.

Thanks. I just assumed it was the same as in US but apparently not the case.

Make sure to leave plenty of time for your connection. Last time I was in T5, it took 3.5 hours to get out of immigration (all bathrooms were offline, too.) Your connection to Scotland is low risk, but don't think you're getting out of immigration in 20 minutes like you would anywhere else in Europe (for US passport holders, at least.)

I’ve got a 2.5 hour layover. Have seen horror stories about LHR so just trying to do my due diligence.

Just went through immigration at both T5 and T2 at LHR last week. It’s a breeze. Five minutes combined total wait both times. They have a great automated system.

I’m with you OP. I have a 2.5 hour connection at T5 in LHR in October. Half the reports say it takes 3 hours and the other half say 15 minutes.

I read there was some construction the last two years that slowed things down, but that’s finished and wait times are better now. Good luck and report back once you go through.

MSY is super easy. You can check the website to see what is full or not. I would suggest reserving a spot in short term. It’s connected to the terminal and is super convenient. Long term and surface lot are fine too. I’d do park and fly over economy. Park and fly is pretty quick. Economy shuttles tend to take a little longer. I’ve had an economy shuttle take 15 minutes to get us to the airport and I’ve had shuttles take about an hour to pick us up and get us to the garage.

ya I'll disagree. when were you last there? I went thru twice last week, and it was a breeze. I'm Global Entry in the States and that was twice as long to get thru immigration here as getting into the UK

Made it through successfully and the bags arrived at our final destination. Immigration, passport control, and security were a breeze and took maybe 20 minutes total.
