Fender has these Paramount PR-180-E guitars with a Fishman Nashville spiderbridge pickup and a hardshell case for $549.00.
That pickup alone sells for $229.00 and you can figure $150.00 for the case. It's like getting the guitar for $175.00 and they aren't too bad. I've owned 1 that didn't have the pickup in it. My friend has it right now, and it still plays like a champ.
Went ahead and ordered one this morning. Don't know how long that deal will last.

Man that looks nice auggie… I’ve always been interested in one. I’m curious to say the least.

Going back and comparing, The guitar I had before was an FR-50, almost the same, but the F-holes were different, and it didn't have a bound fretboard either. The resonator cone was exactly the same, but without a spiderbridge pickup. Huge difference.
I also had a Washburn, that had a neck pickup, but it didn't really have that resonator sound when plugged in, so I traded it off.
Hoping this pickup is going to make a big difference. I think it will.
This model has gotten some great reviews.
It's supposed to be here Friday. I will give my thoughts for sure after a few days of playing it.

Nice! Let us know your initial impressions when it arrives, if I don’t pull the trigger before then. I’m in need of taking on a new challenge since my 14 year old son has taken over my Epiphone Black Beauty…

Will do man.
The reviews I've seen have been really good.
At that price it's hard to go wrong.
You might have to spend some time or money on setup, but it's different from a normal acoustic guitar.

Welp, I got this guitar today. Had a crack in it. Looks like somebody dropped it.
They are sending me another one.
I've played this one a little and I really like it, wish it didn't have the crack in it. Sounds fantastic plugged in, the way a resonator is supposed to, not to mention unplugged. The case is really nice too.
The finish is a wide open pore satin mahogany that feels really great to me.
If the other arrives in good shape and sounds and plays as well, I'm going to call it a bargain.

I'm curious to know how that thing sounds... I have an Austin resonator I bought 20 years ago... love it, but it's cheap.

I played a Dobro years ago at the Gibson factory in Nashville... whoa...

They probably sound pretty close to the same unplugged.
Most of these low priced resonator guitars use exactly the same resonator cone and that's mostly where the sound comes from. I'm not sure much else factors in. I've had 2 others that both had the same cone and they all sound pretty much the same. This one already having the Fishman Spiderbridge pickup and hardshell case were the reason I chose it instead of the other models available in that price range. They're all pretty much the same.

, Yeah, whole different ballpark in sound, quality and price.

Yeah, but if the replacement arrives in good shape, I already know I will like it. Even the setup on the cracked one was really good.
It's still a pain in the butt to do the return thing. I guess things happen though.

Been watching a lot of videos and doing research on beginner resonator basics. I’m getting close just waiting on you to fully convince me.

Well man, to me it's hard to beat the sound of a resonator guitar. I have loved every one that I have owned and none of them have been expensive ones.
The problem was just having one that sounds right plugged in. This one fits the bill.
With that said, Gretsch makes one with a biscuit type cone with a Fishman pickup that is a little more expensive and doesn't come with a case. I have never played one with that type of resonator cone, so I stuck with what I knew about. Sweewater has that model for $649.99. and I almost bought that one, but then again, I just didn't know about that type.

Maybe Fretshack will chime in and give his thoughts.

I enjoy playing open tuning with a glass slide, and have always wanted a resonator. May have to give it a try.

I use a Dunlop 222 brass slide on my little finger.
The inside diameter fits perfectly (exactly 0.750"), but its too long and thick and heavy.
I've been meaning to shorten it a bit and thin it down some, but seems I never remember to do it.
Also, Dan electro makes a cool resonator guitar that is more like an electric.
That guitar is $699.00 from Sweetwater.
It has a resonator pickup plus a lipstick neck pickup with a blend control.

I used to have a Gretsch Boxcar resonator that I bought in a scratch and dent sale for like $300, it was great. Wish I still had it.

You can get another one. Lots of choices out there that aren't expensive at all.
