Curious, why the “awe man” mentality when players leave LSU Baseball?

Who cares. There is no more loyalty in this college game. It’s about money. Will lose zero sleep, nor worry about Neal, Moffet, Kling, Dutton or anyone who hits the transfer portal. If they are in that portal, then Jay either told them the deal to cut dead weight, they don’t like it here, or the players know they don’t have what it takes to earn the P&G. You develop, or you pack your bags. Just glad we saw Freshman step up this year ahead of veteran guys. Let em leave. Who cares. We are in this to win championships, not be a loyal mediocre ball club. Next Man Up. Tiger Bait.

You think it's about money or playing time?

Both, but if you suck, and haven’t made progress, why should you see the field at one of the cathedrals that is LSU baseball? Blows my mind how many fans are like “that sucks,” Why? Explain to me why? We don’t see the athletes practice, improve, etc until they take the mound, the plate or the field. And if they are still making mistakes, the same mistakes as the year before, then send them on their way. And the folks in the portal have had plenty of chances minus 2. It’s 1000% better for the program.

You don’t know if Jay told them to leave. Two of those guys landed on SEC teams and we may face them next year. Jay was publicly lobbying for Neal to stay praising him after the season.

Not saying that’s what happened. Most guys in the portal are told during exit meetings what their future is like at LSU. You think Jay isn’t telling them they may have to go somewhere else? Neal can gladly go. Will miss his bat, but not him behind the plate. We have guys coming in who can replace him no problem. In regards to Neal, “wanted a fresh start?” Why? He played catcher, outfield and DHed lol. He was way behind Milazzo catching. And if he loved playing for Jay, he wouldn’t have left. Next man up. Tiger Bait.
ETA: hope we face the transfers and rock em. College ball is now the minor leagues.

So we celebrate the recruiting classes as being full of great players but if they leave say, “oh well they suck anyway”?
That’s ranter 101

If they suck, don’t improve or want to leave, you celebrate them wanting to stay or keeping em on also? Thats “ranter” stupidity

Hate to break it to you champ, it's been about this long before NIL.
College athletics is nothing more than an audition for a job. I have no problem with players making decisions based on what they think will give them the best opportunity to have a pro career.
I promise you that the overwhelming majority of players outside of Louisiana in the 80's and 90's weren't coming to play sports at LSU because they had some strong connection to the school.

Oh I know. The portal and NIL screwed all college sports. But no one has answered my question in this whole thread. Why the “awe man” mentality? Seriously. Explain that.

No it didn't.
Like I said, your premise of it leading to "no loyalty" is just not true.

Kling wanted to leave last yer. JJ talked him in to staying

Experience, and……..oh yeah, experience. In the process, the focus, and priorities of a team. It’s one of the value items that has to be earned.
When an experienced player leaves, it’s a loss. You can replace the player with a better one but not the experience.

Agree to Disagree. NIL and the portal ruined college athletics when it gave players the ability to commit, then pop smoke when they didn’t earn a starting spot, or they didn’t put in the work needed, or turn out to be what was expected. Literally, loyalty means committing and staying through highs and lows. Working hard. And yes, if a player comes here, and does well, then they stay. If the HC leaves, well, that’s something they adjust to. Part of Athletics. If a player leaves nowadays, then it’s the next man up. So again, why the awe man mentality lol?

Thank you. The first one. But when we lose “experienced” players, and then pick up experienced players from other teams, we don’t lose anything. So far, the dudes we’ve picked up have experience. That’s why I say “next man up.”
