Cast has really gotten older. But yeah, it's a fun panel to listen to.

It’s amazing how close those guys all bonded, including Viggo, they get together quite frequently after more than 20 years. That’s impressive, they’re all legit friends

I’m guessing this was basically their version of college for many of them, so it makes sense.

I think it was either right before, or during, that con they found out about Bernard Hill.

Didn't Astin only get paid like $200K for all three films?

I mean I know you have to take that job if you're and actor, but damn. I guess he knew he could make it back on the backend with conventions and appearances for the rest of his life, but $66K per film is just insane.

I never heard that. Though there was a large cast, he was already established somewhat. Still seems low. Not sure what residuals the hobbits got though.

After Fellowship, they all got a cut in the box office gross and got a lot more than that. Outside of the marketing budget, The Two Towers and Return of the King were pretty much pure profit, so it made it a bit easier to divvy up some more cash to the primary actors.

Ian McKellan I believe was the highest paid actor at $1 million a film, but he also got a fat check for the next two films. They originally offered Sean Connery 10% of the total gross of the films to play Gandalf, but he declined.

I think he was in Con-Man with Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion a few years back. Had put on a few, but man, that gut has grown as of late.

The move that made a legend make one more shite film chasing that payday he lost out on and retired after League of Extrodrinary Gentleman...

Out of all the bizarre films Connery made, it's almost unimaginable how he turned down LOTR and that type of deal.

Connery's delivery of "Fool of a Took!" would've been great.

It was his first role, so I think that was good for him. That said he also got a nice million bonus or so when TTT and RotK wrapped up their box office run.

Agreed. He also said he would have done it for free being his break which led to Pirates.

I can't imagine he could have done better at Gandalf.

Not saying he would’ve been better overall but that specific line with his accent and inflection would’ve been a perfect marriage
