Have to pick up my daughter from a summer camp in TN later this summer. Thought about picking her up Fri morning and doing something around the area, staying overnight somewhere, and flying back either out of Memphis or Atlanta (cheap SW flights).

So I can either drive 5 hrs towards Memphis and do something either in Nashville or Memphis, or 3 hrs towards Atlanta and do something in Chattanooga or Atlanta.

Any recs in any of those places for me and my 10yr old daughter for an afternoon/evening?

1. Fly out of Atlanta.
2. Like where in Tennessee? It's a big place.

But, generically, I'd say:

1. Chattanooga is a fun town. She'd love the Aquarium. Right on the Interstate.

2. "Outdoorsy Wise"...

Not that far out of the way to go to Amicalola Falls State Park. Great lodge. Tons of hiking. Waterfall is the highest in the Eastern US. Can do day trips into Dahlonega. Cool old town with some nice restaurants and shops.

Or a side jaunt over to Blue Ridge GA. Tube the Taccoa River! Several outfitters in the area. Have dinner at one of our favorite places in the world: Taccoa River Restaurant!

Thanks Nole Man, great suggestions. It's in Crossville, TN. I couldn't remember the name when I was typing earlier on my phone haha, so I just gave the driving distances that I knew to the cities I looked up.

In the summer you what to focus on East TN or North Georgia. Heat in Nashville will be bad, Memphis worse. Chatanooga has a nice selection of nature and Civil War sites. Best travel options will be out of ATL.

Ah, that changes things? Does she golf? Retirement mecca these days!

You can't fly out of Nashville? Prices?

So, to get to some of those places from there:

1:45 to Chattanooga

2:48 to Blue Ridge

3:48 to Hartsfield

But hey, a car's a car. All about making memories! All those suggestions would still be great. Much better to me than heading towards Memphis unless that's the goal.

Memphis zoo is pretty nice but I wouldn’t drive all that way just for that.

Near Nashville:
Cumberland Caverns
Wave Country
Nashville Zoo
Cheekwood Gardens
There's a couple indoor trampoline parks in Brentwood

Just what a 10 year old girl would like to see.

I'd probably go to Lookout Mountain and Ruby Falls or the Aquarium.

Downtown ATL has the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coca Cola next door to each other. The Atlanta Zoo is pretty nice also.

On 75 north of Atlanta is the Telus Museum in Cartersville. That place is pretty neat.

My friend took his daughter on a fishing charter trip in Memphis fishing catfish on the Mississippi River. They fished in the evening.
