I saw the Ozark Trail 36 recommended on some older posts but it looks discontinued or not in production currently.

What’s a similar alternative these days?

I keep bass in mine. Yeti that a vendor gave me. Wouldn't pay that much for it but it's pretty damn sweet.

Using them for fish or beverages?

Sam's used to sell (assuming they still do) a brand called California Innovations cooler bags for like $10-12 that were great for fish bags. Used a couple of them over several years fishing from a kayak.

Or are you just looking for an a soft sided ice chest?

This is the crux of my point. Fish fins stab holes in them. And don't do what I did and try to put a bunch of blue crabs in one.

Soft coolers are for beverages and snacks only, in my opinion.

My kayak friends use them for keeping fish in. I'm sure they make some good ones that can be durable.

Not in a kayak, chief. My point was that I was able to get many years out of just a couple $10-12 cooler bags. They held a limit of redfish + some trout/flounder many times and did a great job. Even if they do leak a little, who cares in that scenario?

it’s a giant PIA to get in and out of, but the OG yeti with the vagina zipper is/was rock solid. Mine looks and performs like new and it’s had at least ten years of abuse from me

Kayak changes the situation entirely.

Just get the Yeti. You get what you pay for. Look on FB for sale. My wife picked up the Yeti 35 bag that's $300 normally for $150 in perfect condition.

Yup - I've had one for 7 years and it is solid. Heavy bastard when you fill it.

Zipper on mine finally broke this week after almost 10yrs of abuse. They're sending me a brand new one for free. They even sent a pre-paid shipping label.

I was going to get yeti m20 backpack that was 20% off but it sold out. Ice mule seemed to have good reviews so going to get that and save a bunch of $$
