ESPN's Raking of all 134 FBS QB Situations; tldr Nuss Buss "Tier 8"

ESPN - don't click, trust me. I read it for you.

TIER 8: Shoes to fill (15 players)

In the 10 years of the College Football Playoff, LSU has had two seasons with a player posting a Total QBR better than 90 -- 2019 Burrow and 2023 Daniels, both Heisman winners and No. 1 picks. Who put up the next best single-season Total QBR for the Tigers? Danny Etling in 2017 (80.8). The gap between Nos. 2 and 3, in other words, is sizable. What does that mean for Nussmeier? Well, in 2020, after Burrow's departure, Max Johnson started the bulk of LSU's games and posted a woeful 59.1 Total QBR. The bar for an encore performance is set pretty low.
The sample sizes are small, of course, but in his three years at LSU, Nussmeier has thrown at least 10 passes in 10 games. In the first five of those games -- two of which came against FCS foes -- he completed 58%, averaged 7.2 yards per pass and had three TDs and four interceptions. In the last five -- a slate that includes Alabama and Georgia -- he completed 63%, averaged 9.2 yards per pass and threw eight touchdowns with three picks.

Don’t stress. Nuss just has to be himself and efficient as possible. Try to limit the turnovers.

Seems like a silly categorization and doesn’t reflect ability, just guys that are replacing good QBs.

Well, yeah. The last guy won the Heisman

Maybe number 1 picks by their teams is what they mean? It doesn't say number 1 overall picks. That's my guess.

Yes, but obviously he doesn’t have to win a Heisman to be successful. He has a team behind him too. Just do his job well.

Brennan started the first four games and was putting up Heisman contention numbers. Max was true freshman when pressed into a starting role. Nussmeier and Brennan are similar in experience and we should expect a high level of performance with the weapons available and the best offensive line in the country.

Right out of the gate, the guy admits that neither Burrow or Daniels were in their Tier 1 projections.
This thing is just like all ESPN rankings. They suck

I'm not sure why the angst here. Nuss has great potential and has looked pretty good in his last few appearances but is still unproven. I believe he will light it up this season but I'd be lying if I didn't admit that may be at least partially influenced by my P&G glasses that I always wear. Only the season will prove these guys right or wrong.

This is goofy logic and stinks of some sort of causation fallacy.

And in his last game he threw for 395 at 69%. I'd say he is on an upward trajectory.

2023 Carson Beck.

With the exception of interceptions, I fully expect Nuss to exceed those numbers in every category. Would that mean he is Tier 1 or at least whatever they are calling Tier 2
And this list looks like something my wife would say if I asked for her top 3 restaurant choices for dinner Friday night. Tier 5B. What the frick is that?

All true and no issue with any of that, but how is he any different than the tier 4 group which includes Nico Iamaleava and USC's Miller Moss? What have they done to separate themselves from Nuss? Or vice versa?

That is true as well, which is why I generally find these types of articles close to pointless. My guess (and purely that) is it is based on the hype generated for those particular players and the writer's own biases.
