I’ve personally been to those wet markets as well, and no I never saw anything like a bat or a pangolin there. I saw a bunch of crazy shite, like insects and exceptionally illegal animal products (rhino horns for example) they were trying to sell, but nothing like a bat or a pangolin.

I am adventurous with food and will try almost anything. I have eaten fish head, donkey (yummy), yak, jelly fish, organ meat, pig's blood, duck blood (yummy). Never have I seen any rodents or flying mammals. Chinese are proud of their local cuisine and want you to enjoy it with them. I have a standing invitation from a professor of modern Asian history to compare donkey and dog while drinking the finest baijiu in Beijing - I will probably take him up on it if I ever visit again.

Donkey is indeed quite delicious, and my fiancé had a mascot from her college that’s a donkey, and she does not appreciate that I’ve eaten and enjoyed donkey multiple times. Donkey burgers are incredible.

jelly fish

Didn’t care for that.

organ meat

With the exception of hearts (namely duck and chickens) never cared for that either.

Absolutely delicious.

Lived there for three years and never saw any of that shite, and the insects I mention were SE Asian owned, not Chinese.

Absolutely. Very communal in their cuisine and welcoming.

Asian history to compare donkey and dog while drinking

Sorry, can’t do it. I know the Koreans love eating man’s best friend, but can’t do it.

I fricking hate that beverage more than anything. I did take my current boss out to Chinatown in San Francisco a few years ago and gambled in a Chinese den drinking Baijiu with him just to show him what China was like, but yeah, we were hung over as frick the next morning going to the airport.

Do they really dine on live monkey brain? I've seen pics of tables with holes in the center. Supposedly a live monkey’s head sticks through the hole as guests dine on the contents of the opened skull.
