'Seven Pounds'...SPOILER ALERT

Good flick!! Nice how all of the parts come together. Don't read if you haven't seen it or don't want to know about plot:
1) Does title pertain only to seven deaths to be avenged or possibly the human heart weighing seven lbs?
2) One character who gets a phone call near the end does not receive a "gift". Is that an attorney who "took care" of things at the end? That one kind of left me hanging.

I was thinking probably the weight of the heart.

Wasn't that his friend who knew what he was going to do?

The average weight of a human heart is about 300 grams which is about a half pound, so I'm pretty sure the title isn't referencing that. The guy at the end is his friend who he was talking to throughout the movie that knew what the plan was and arranged for the heart to go to whoever he picked.

so it's a movie with heart, I know bad joke.

Makes sense with the title NOT referencing the weight of the heart. I think 2003 movie "21 grams" referenced the weight of the heart, but most thought it was a drug reference.
Thanks for the info - it's one of those movies that I'd like to see twice to catch all the subtle things that happened before I figured out the storyline.

Just got back from seeing it, soooooo depressing, but hopefully it makes people consider and talk about becoming an organ donor, make sure you tell your family your wishes.
That dude was his best friend since he was 14, my boyf said he was a doctor, and he was the one who gave him the list of people that needed organs at the beginning "you didnt get this from me" or whatever at the bottom of the list of names.
I have been wondering about the title, could it be that the total weight of all the gifts was 7 lbs? Eyes, bone marrow, kidney, 1/2 liver, heart, what am I missing? So he helped 5 people, 7 was how many died in the accident...

This is so important. My dad had a heart transplant at the age of 73 and he will be 77 in 2 more months. God Bless organ donors

Creditors who insist on having their “pound of flesh” are those who cruelly demand the repayment of a debt, no matter how much suffering it will cost the debtor: “The bank will have its pound of flesh; it is going to foreclose on our mortgage and force us to sell our home.” The expression is from The Merchant of Venice, by William Shakespeare.
Seven people/seven pounds...or something like that.

i thought there was a phraze "7 pounds of penance" or something like that. thats all i thought the whole movie. could definately be wrong.
i thought they made it clear in that movie that when a person dies the body immediatley loses 21 grams of weight. and claimed it was the soul.
either way, i thought seven pounds was a pretty good movie. really slow and depressing but i love a movie that can make a person feel some sort of emotion.

I thought it was pretty slow, but definitely makes you think.

I believe Barry Pepper was his lawyer and executed the deal after Will Smith died. The list came from his brother, the actual IRS agent, who let him pose as an IRS agent so that he could carry out his plan. He was upset with Will Smith at the end because they had lost contact and he thought Will Smith was straying outside of the plan.
At least I'm pretty sure...

his brother did not let him pose as an IRS agent, thats why his brother was upset at will at the end of the movie. and must have also been the "thing he took from" the brothers house when he went to visit.

Did you even watch the movie? if so, how could you ask this? It was his best friend.
This movie sucked. Will Smith overacted.
The director had to keep the audience confused in order to keep our attentions.
good idea to give oneself like that but horible movie.

So LeonPhelps - please give me a short list of at least five "good" movies that I should watch. You must be a chip off the old Roger Ebert block.

Wrong, his brother did let him pose as the IRS agent. He gave his brother a lung when he contracted lung cancer, and as part of the deal he allowed Will Smith to pose as an IRS agent in order to find six other lives to save in order to fulfill the rest of the agreement.

the title refers to the saying "a pound of flesh" from one of shakespeare's plays. it's a metaphor for having to repay a debt, the movie just makes it become literal. he gives his seven pounds of flesh to seven people in order to repay what he feels is his debt for taking seven lives

This is completely incorrect.
I mean, terribly wrong.
Probably wouldn't call you out on it, but you were "correcting" someone else who had it right; thats worth at least 10 douche points.

"Pound of Flesh" - Meaning
Something which is owed that is ruthlessly required to be paid back.
Origin
This expression derives from Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice, 1596. The insistence by Shylock of the payment of Antonio's flesh is the central plot device of the play:
SHYLOCK:
"The pound of flesh which I demand of him Is deerely bought, 'tis mine, and I will haue it."
The figurative use of the phrase to refer to any lawful but nevertheless unreasonable recompense dates to the late 18th century.
7 pounds = 7 lives lost in the auto accident, including the main charater's fiance. Will Smith's character is making restitution for the seven lives he has taken.
Hope this helps! :-)
