I've heard it said that the German WWII use of "jabo" was primarily regarding the U.S. P47, a big, sturdy aircraft with eight 0.50-cal. machineguns (IIRC the most of that size or larger) and capable of carrying a relatively heavy bomb load. Especially after D-Day, the use of P51s to escort bombers and British Spitfires as interceptors freed up the P47s to perform close air support for Allied infantry, including against German armored vehicles.
