If they’re trading #1 they aren’t going to want to trade Okungwu too. Maybe something like this could work

BI + Nance + #21 + future 1st

Murray + Capella + #1

Atlanta was getting offers of trash players and a pick at the deadline for Murray. Here you get 2 picks for Murray and then BI for #1 in a weak draft. Keep in mind that rookie scale at the top is high. So #1 in a draft without true top tier talent has some risk with it. This is a player that will be making $10-$12 million and be on the max salary path.

I agree with your first statement.

Somehow we need to reroute Capella and picks to Cleve for JA.

Then all roads lead back to rome :)

We don't even have to make it a future 1st. We can use the Lakers pick and our own and provide two picks in this year's draft.

On the one hand, rookies generally suck, and making a move like this signals that we aren't going to try to contend in the next year or two. On the other hand, it does help as a salary reset to enable us to pay TMIII and stay below the tax longer term.

But a top draft pick would certainly be exciting, sell tickets, and energize the fan base.
