1. No SNAP benefits at the grocery store. Go back to government cheese. Set up satellite stores like the BR food bank all over the state. Nobody will ever get off of food stamps if they get to shop at Whole Foods with other people's money.

I’ve been saying this forever. It should be a government store with all the staples and generic food. You would cut down on fraud and could keep an accurate account of what the money is being spent on.

But your Rouses and Walmarts would never go for it and would fight with everything they have.

All these stores have more registers that are not used ever. They law should be you’re required to have 1-2 registers that only accept snap and the rest do not.

It doesn’t piss off the stores and still brings the distinction back.

wellfare should be a sack of beans and rice you can pick up every two weeks. Would end the generational wellfare stuff real quick

So basically a poorly run Alabama ABC store with banker hours that no one on assistance can visit because they “should be” at work or have to travel to some obscure out of the way location.

It would be easier just to limit EBT food purchases for raw foods: fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy products, flour, eggs, sliced or whole bread, uncooked pasta, and bagged sugar.

You would then prohibit sugary or processed foods, no cookies, soft drinks, TV dinners, canned goods of ready to heat and eat foods, sugary cereals, etc.

Another idea would be to turn food stamps into a WIC like program that specifies which food items you could purchase. For example, a voucher might be good for 2-3 lbs. of ground beef, 1 dozen of eggs, 1 gallon of milk, 1 lb. of onions, and 1 lb. Loaf of cheese. Where the greed will come in on that side is that stores will raise the prices knowing which items are on the list and direct you to those specific items. I can remember seeing at a Rouses in the past that the WIC “recommended” milk was not their store brand of milk but the more expensive name brand milk.
