when you make the statement that he didn't contribute much Is there a reason you left out runs and RBI?

Yes because we were discussing BA and OBP since the beginning
Kling has not been a good lead off hitter or hitter in sec play. He hasn’t. But he is the best of our 3rd options in the OF
That’s where the conversation should be for anyone not being emotional

Might want to take another peek at your post, brother.

So in those 4 wins he was
.200 BA / .300 OBP / 5 ks / 2 walks
Yeh, don’t think that contributed much
He also saw, on average, 4.3 pitches per plate appearance in the those 4 games. 78 pitches over 18 PAs. Including a 1 pitch HBP.
I understand it's not the most glamourous thing to look at, but we're discussing guys that aren't separating themselves by outcomes. His defense puts him ahead of the others, but he's also seeing more pitches than the other batters. (Brown, with a 7 pitch walk thrown in only saw 3.25 per PA against A&M)
It's a contribution that's difficult to quantify, but it's definitely a positive contribution. We have to look on the margins to separate the players. This one of the marginal positives that goes in Kling's column.

Kling should be the 3rd outfielder. I 100% agree. But he is a poor lead off hitter for SEC standards. No need to try and sell ourselves a lie as fans

I'm not advocating for him to lead off. I'm not overly concerned with line up construction in general as long as your highest OBP guys are clustered together.
Just adding some support for him being in the lineup in general.
Again, it's marginal, but when none of the players are separating themselves by outcomes, the differences are on the margins. And what Kling does with longer at bats and more sure defense has a larger positive effect on the team as a whole.

He had a key double that drove in two of our six runs, which happened to be the only Sunday SEC game we have won all year. Not to mention he tied the game up for us when Mizzou was winning 2-0 in the top of the 5th. Apparently, we have different views on what contributing means.

Outside of a few of us, most of us agree that he needs to be hidden in the 8-hole. I'm really not aware of anyone that wants to see him leadoff. And no one that is really serious gives much to this record when he bats leadoff stat.

I’m going to be honest, I don’t really care that much about any stats that aren’t from conference games
Certainly mean a whole lot less.

In a 2-0 game on Sunday Vs Missouri, he had a 2 run double in the 5th that tied the game at 2-2.
But yea, who, likes facts.
His OBP for those games was .333, not .300, too. Who likes facts tho huh pridey

No one on this team is a good leadoff hitter by SEC standards

I don't see an obvious leadoff batter for us. Maybe Larson?
I will point out Kling got a nice hit off the Aggie closer in G3. He was for 1-2 vs NW but also had a BB and HBP. His out was a hard hit lineout to SS.
He seems to have deliberately adjusted his swing. All of this is a positive.

He has hit midweek level well all year then flopped in weekend play. He has shown that his performance in midweek games like Northwestern has no correlation to his weekend performance.

Kling should start for this team. Doesn’t mean we need to start a thread or threads to try and talk ourselves into him being good

He got on base 5 times(3 hits, 2 walks)
It’s actually a .294 OBP. I was being nice rounding up to .300
Facts, lesty…..

Lester did 5/15 to figure his .333
Lester did not accurately calculate OBP…..

you left out a HBP in the Auburn win. That would give him 18 plate appearances and reaching base safely 6 times. 6/18 is .333
Facts pridey...

He went to the plate 18 times. You're not counting the HBP. 6/18 is .333
