The schools don’t have to pay it. The boosters don’t even HAVE to pay it.


They are choosing to pay it. For now. That well will eventually dry and common sense will become a little more common.

You saw two big name schools just a week ago say no to a price that they could afford because they didn’t think a player, at a position of need, was worth it.


Need a little bit of that going around but it’s coming.

I think this is what happens also. It's early days in a new market. Paying top dollar for mediocre DTs who will likely put up mediocre numbers next season isn't a recipe for long term success. When these guys flame out, the market will dry up for this kind of player. I still think marquee players with established track records of performing will command top dollar, but we have a bunch of folks upset because we didn't pay top dollar for DTs that nobody had ever heard of three months ago.
