ETA: In 1952, President Dwight D. Eisenhower was quoted as saying: “We have been unable to unearth not one bit of tangible evidence of Hitler’s death. Many people believe that Hitler escaped from Berlin.”

from what I heard, I think the Soviets had the body and we had various medical records, and when the iron curtain fell and documents were shared between countries it lined up.

I think the correct way of saying that is that Eisenhower has been quoted as saying that in 1952. There doesn't seem to be any evidence of him actually saying it though.
