You’re missing the point again. These restaurants want customers. They will go out of business without patrons. Then no one is better off.
And I’m most frustrated by the spread of tipping to new areas where the “service” is minimal and, again, what the business consists of. You sell me a cup of coffee. If you, the shop, won’t hand it to me, where are we? So should I give your employee an extra buck to get my coffee? Because I know the employer doesn’t, it’s now my problem?
Please believe me, I am a generous tipper and have been for decades but I’m slowly catching on that we’re being played. That’s all.

We are being played. Every business owner under the sun is making the excuse to rob us. It’s time to close the wallet, recession or not. I don’t tip either unless sit down service. And it’s 20% bf tax, if exemplary service. More if a small bill. I no longer care about subsidizing servers. It’s a tip of thank you. The stuff I read and how they talk about patrons is sickening and entitlement. I just press “no tip” and move along with my day for everything else.
