That said, I think AL gets the slight edge over MS for most quintessential "Southern." That Hwy 80 corridor is something else, even if MS has the Delta.

Yeah some of the transition areas on that map are suspect, but it got a good bit of the outlines down.

I really like the Kentutenneese or whatever they got for TN/KY. TN and KY are like MS and AL. Mirrors of each other, just don't talk about NKY and Louisville (river city, not northern or southern).

Agree, from my limited visits, most of KY felt a lot like Middle TN, North MS/AL.
And I've never known how to classify Louisville at all. It's one of the 30 largest cities in the US (maybe by virtue of city/county consolidation), but it seems like it's just hanging out there. Doesn't have much of an larger, or regional, identity or influence.

Aside from Atlanta, Georgia is beautiful. Seems just so relaxing. Northern Georgia is a hidden gem in this country. Just fabulous…..

The West Florida Republic may be the correct answer.

It's a classic river city. It doesn't have a region. It's on a major river and has influences of north and south, but is neither. It's like a halfway point between the two cultures.

Key West is actually closer to the equator than it is Canada, so I will say Florida.

Large swaths of of Middle Georgia and South Georgia are slash pine trees. Also the DOT gets way too choppy when it comes to cutting down trees. I would disagree with you.

As I said…. Northern Georgia….. and trees have nothing to do with north or
South…. But you seem to live there so I won’t argue..

A Jewish eye doctor in Miami once told me the farther north you go the farther south you get.

Oklahoma is not southern at all.

My vote would go to Alabama with Mississippi a close second. Both great states.

There's this thing called Interstate 20 and a whole bunch of stuff below it that goes all the way to Florida.

I think if North Florida and South Georgia ever got together, it would be the most southern state of all. The capitol would be Jacksonville and frigging Valdosta would be the geographic hub

I strongly disagree with this one. East Tennessee "working class people" are more culturally aligned with Kentucky and Ohio hicks and mountain hillbillies than they are with rednecks. And Nashville is more culturally similar to Cincinnati Ohio than it is with Birmingham.
