Since when does the govt give a shite about that?

it's risky, we were due to lose some more folks.
This will get some butthurt but it’s literally their job and they know the risks. I am thankful for those who do it, but nobody is forcing them to take the risk.

Why would we believe the soviets?
Doesn't matter since they never claimed we didn't go. Which is the entire point. Had we not gone and that capsule just stayed in orbit, they would have told the world. Doesn't matter if you believe it or not. It would be there.
It's not.

So basically the trips were completely useless.
Other than all the related advances in scientific research and technology, dunking on the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War, and cementing America as the undisputed most technologically powerful nation on the planet for half a century, yes, they were completely useless.

Had we only gone one time, I could maybe see more legs to the conspiracy angle. Not sure why we would’ve risked multiple “fake trips” especially when one would’ve still sufficed as an all-time epic achievement.
Also as a couple of others have already noted, this was at the very height of the Cold War. The Soviet Union would in no way, shape or form have been duped to that extent and they would have (very loudly) proclaimed “America’s weakness and lies” if they even so much had an inkling that this whole deal was phony. The USSR was monitoring and tracking everything we were doing with an eagle’s eye.
Finally, didn’t one of India’s own unmanned craft capture images of some of the Apollo landing sites on the moon’s surface just recently within the past couple of years?

I remember when they were going to build the Superconducting Super Collider near my childhood home in Waxahachie. The project got well into the construction process when congress decided to cut funding and the project died. That was in the mid to late 1980s. The logic of some on this thread would conclude that the SSC was a hoax and the project never actually existed.

Watch the whole podcast. They discuss a lot of the things that try to debunk it as being a hoax.
I’m not going to watch that, for the same reason I won’t waste hours of my life watching flat earth videos or “5G is killing us” videos. There’s a line between healthy skepticism and pathetically gullible, and this crosses it.
