most universally agreed upon misgivings with the end of GOT was Bran ending up on the throne.
He's basically omniscient, so if they don't make him king, he'll just be the all-knowing seer of the Stark family. I don't think anyone would want to live in a kingdom where one family knows everything about everyone. The best they can do is make him king and surround him with people from different families to have any influence whatsoever.
The ending actually makes sense if you think about it.

People always say this. The first chapter thing never meant anything to me. I mean the story had to start somewhere and his story just sparked it/was the first shock value plot point. Nobody ever cares whether the first chapter of the took ties into the most important story line. And there was a forward anyway.

I mean he had already given up the Stark name. He didn't want to be a Stark, much less the king.
