What's your USDA zone??
They're shady plants naturally, but I see azaleas in full sun all the time.
Could also try hollies mixed with smaller gardenias or roses in front
Variegated Eonymus or Cleyera looks great even if it's not blooming
Indian Hawthorne "Majestic Beauty" gets 15-20' tall and has pink blooms
Oleander is usually evergreen in zone 8b+
There are tons of dwarf crepe myrtles too if you want something bulletproof
