I have every one of Foreigner's first six albums. I couldn't name one song from The Pixies, Joy Division, or Sonic Youth. I can hear a Foreigner song on the radio every day. To the best of my knowledge I have never heard The Pixies, Joy Division or Sonic Youth on the radio. The only people those bands ever influenced are music critics and Depeche Mode.
this might be the most depressing post I've ever read.

Man, it all depends on how old you are. I’m old enough to remember a 10 year span when you couldn’t turn the radio on without hearing Foreigner or S Miller.
By the time The Pixies and Joy Division came along I’d quit listening to radio….any radio. In fact, I’d stopped listening to the vast majority of new music all together based on (in my humble opinion) a lack of musicianship.
As a musician, it would take me days to learn many of those old Foreigner songs. It would take me minutes to learn a Nirvana song.
But every generation is different and I’m not here to say which era or bands had more of an influence. It’s all music regardless of the chord structure or lyrical content, and because it is, it’s inspiring to folks even if it isn’t to me personally.
It’s still rock and roll to me.

. They all had a hell of a lot more lasting influence than Foreigner did.
I think younger posters underestimate how huge Foreigner was in the late 70’s through 80’s. I’m honestly shocked they aren’t already in.

I don't even hate Foreigner, but man, this is a pretty bad indictment of your horrible taste in music.

Frampton one significant moment
^Frampton Comes Alive was the sentinel album of the 1970s.
