Because invasion is what Russia always eventually enacts to get their way. I don't know if the Cia sponsored the coup or not, but I do know Ukrainians, especially West Ukrainians, despise Russia. I've always felt that if the Eastern provinces want to join Russia, let them go. The Crimea is also a lot more Russian than Ukrainian.

Yeah that was apparent when they burned 42 pro-Russia Ukrainians alive in Odesa in 2014.
