It's in all likelihood the entire reason this species exists. Homo Sapiens are likely just a caterpillar stage for whatever our evolution is making. Not many species stay the same and survive. And we're a species that has eyes on the stars. Which means we will have to survive in the most inhospitable environs possible. This machine we're all sitting in is made for inside the atmosphere of earth. Anything else and it dies and you move on to wherever the next step is for your soul.

Being a meat eating bipedal murder-monkey is a great strategy for taking over this planet. Not so much for interstellar travel. Unless we change the body of course.

It's unnerving to think about. And I'm sure I'll get downvoted to pieces, and normally I'd agree with you. But we're going to have to adapt if we're going to get off this planet and spread the species. You are not your body. It's an elegant device for keeping a soul in this particular spot in the universe. If God made that for you, why would you be restricted to that if he also made you intelligent enough to become a multiplanet species? Yeah there's a lot of scary shite about it. But what isn't scary about this life?

Not sure how you're getting from A to Z here.

Your premise seems to be that our soul is our "true self" which, for the sake of this reply, I'll go ahead and agree with.

You seem to be implying that if we could somehow upload our soul into a robot, then our true selves could survive inhospitable environments.

But what makes you think that souls are even compatible with computer technology? Or any technology, for that matter.

I'd say that "if God made that for" me - thereby assuming there is a God - then the natural destination for the soul upon separation from the physical body is another dimension that exists outside of this physical one that is more like God's dimension.

BTW, evolution doesn't "make" anything. And it certainly doesn't plan ahead. Are you implying intelligent design?

Correct. I am. And I'm an agnostic.
