Younger generations have also shunned chains a little more than older ones. I'm not saying that I blame them, but it's definitely a thing.

They don’t shun them they just frequent different/newer chains.

The chains like this are suffering because their prices have become comparable to the higher end restaurants. Where it used to be maybe 20% cheaper the price is now the same so why pay the same for lesser quality?

Ironically, Olive Garden is one of the most popular chains among younger people. But as for the other chains... yes younger generations don't frequent them often. Fast casual is the new thing. (Panera/Chipotle/etc)
